The Wildhearts’ former bassist Scott Sorry dies on 47th birthday

Scott Sorry, best known as the bassist in rock band The Wildhearts, has died at the age of 47.

The family of the American musician, who had two tenures with the UK group between 2006 and 2012 and 2013 and 2015, confirmed that the rock star – whose real name was Gerard Scott – sadly lost his lengthy battle with brain cancer on his birthday on Thursday (30.10.25).

A statement shared to his Instagram page read:  “We’re heartbroken to share that Scott Sorry has passed away after a long and incredibly brave fight with brain cancer.

“Scott passed away on his 47th birthday, October 30, 2025.

“After being diagnosed with glioblastoma back in 2018, Scott refused to let it define him. He outlived every doctor’s expectation, turning months into years, and even made it back to the UK in 2022 for a tour – something that meant the world to him. He was so grateful to be able to play again, to see so many familiar faces and to personally thank so many of you who had supported him through it all.

“We’re devastated beyond words, but there’s comfort in knowing he’s finally free from pain. His strength, humour, and heart will stay with us forever.

“Scott is survived by his wife Hanni and his three children River, Ryder and Rörik.”

After a two-year stint with cult LA punk outfit Amen, Sorry stepped into the lineup of Brides Of Destruction, taking over bass duties from Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx. The band briefly featured Wildhearts frontman Ginger Wildheart, though his involvement was short-lived due to other commitments. Sorry played on the group’s second and final album, Runaway Brides, before exiting in 2007 to join Ginger in a refreshed lineup of The Wildhearts. He went on to contribute to three releases with the band: The Wildhearts, Stop Us If You’ve Heard This One Before, Vol 1, and ¡Chutzpah!.
