The Stone Roses prompt new tour speculation

The Stone Roses have prompted speculation they are getting back together.

The rockers last performed together in 2013 but have sparked rumours they are gearing up for something new after a series of posters featuring the band’s lemon logo mysteriously appeared around Manchester, where they are from.

A shop keeper who’s store features the posters told the Manchester Evening News newspaper he had been "sworn to secrecy about an announcement due in the next 24 hours."

The citrus fruit has appeared on their posters and album artwork previously and fans of the band have noticed the lemon posters come in sets of 16, leading some to speculate an announcement from them will come soon about news for 2016.

The band – featuring Ian Brown, John Squire, Mani and Reni – haven’t released an album of original material since their 1994 record ‘Second Coming’ which followed 1989’s eponymous release.

They originally split in 1996 but announced they were reforming in 2011 and then played a series of shows around the UK and Europe.

And a new firm with the four members as staff has been founded on Companies House suggesting they will be using it for their new ventures.

Gordon Smart, editor of The Scottish Sun newspaper, has also encouraged speculation hinting fans can expect an announcement this evening.

He tweeted: "Be poised tonight, but don’t panic if delayed. It will be fairest of fair and all in favour of the real fan from what I hear #StoneRoses (sic)."
