The Emoji Movie named Worst Picture

‘The Emoji Movie’ was named Worst Picture at the Golden Raspberry Awards.
The animated comedy had the dubious honour of winning four prizes at the annual ceremony, which selects the worst Hollywood has offered up in the last year and is known as the Razzies, including beating out ‘Baywatch’, ‘Fifty Shades Darker’, ‘The Mummy’ and ‘Transformers XVII: The Last Knight’ to take Saturday’s (03.03.18) main accolade.
As well as Worst Picture, ‘The Emoji Movie’ – which starred the likes of James Corden, Sofia Vergara, Sir Patrick Stewart and Anna Faris – also won Worst Screenplay, Worst Director for Anthony ‘Tony’ Leonidis, and Worst Screen Combo for "any two obnoxious emojis" from the movie.
The Razzies said: "Leading this year’s list of movie-misfires is the emoticon-based, talking poop opus."
‘Fifty Shades Darker’ was named Worst Remake, Ripoff or Sequel, while its star Kim Basinger won Worst Supporting Actress.
Kim – who won the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for ‘LA Confidential’ 21 years ago – wasn’t the only former Oscar winner to win a Razzie this year.
Mel Gibson – who scored Best Director and Best Picture for ‘Braveheart’ in 1995 – was named Worst Supporting Actor for ‘Daddy’s Home 2’.
Three-times Oscar nominated actor Tom Cruise was named Worst Actor for his reboot of ‘The Mummy’, while Tyler Perry took worst actress for ‘Boo 2! A Madea Halloween’.
‘Baywatch’ won the inaugural Special Rotten Tomatoes Award: The Razzie Nominee So Bad You Loved It! accolade, the result of an online poll with the Rotten Tomatoes review site.
Despite being nominated in almost every category, ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’, escaped the ceremony unscathed with no wins.
The Razzies are traditionally announced the same weekend as the Academy Awards. The winners are selected by 1,000 voting members from every US state except Montana and 26 countries.
