The 2018 BRIT Award by Sir Anish Kapoor is rectangle

The BRIT Awards 2018 award has been designed by famous sculptor Sir Anish Kapoor.
The clear red design sees Britannia immortalised inside a rectangle – which could prove difficult for stars who win multiple to hold – and will be handed to the biggest pop stars in the world at next February’s Mastercard-sponsored ceremony.
On the honour of being chosen to create the unique work of art, Sir Anish Kapoor said: "I am pleased to have designed the BRIT award for 2018.
"Sculpture is often a process of positive and negative form. I have made the award using both."
Kapoor’s work includes his contribution to the London 2012 Olympic Games, a 178 metre high sculpture ArcelorMittal Orbit, Britain’s largest piece of public art, which is still located at the capital’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
The 63-year-old artist has received several accolades during his four-decade career including the Turner Prize, the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and the Padma Bhushan (India’s third highest civilian honour), as well as the LennonOno Grant for Peace and the Genesis Prize.
BRITs Chairman and Chairman & CEO of Sony Music UK and Ireland, Jason Iley, has praised Kapoor for his unique design which has completely "re-imagined" the award.
He said: "Sir Anish has created some of the most adventurous and memorable works of our life time which is reflected in the new BRIT award.
"He constantly pushes boundaries and challenges the norm and I love the way he has re-imagined this year’s award.
"The beauty of this award is that it challenges perspectives. Every which way you look at it, you discover more."
Last year, saw the late Dame Zaha Hadid design the award, in what was one of the last commissions accepted by the British/Iraqi architect before her shock death from a heart attack at the age of 65 in March 2016.
The BRIT design project was led by Maha Kutay, Director at Zaha Hadid Design, and Niamh Byrne, on behalf of The BRIT Awards, since Hadid personally accepted and commenced on the brief in January of last year.
The 2018 extravaganza – which marks the 38th awards show – will be broadcast live on ITV on February 21.
