Taylor Swift surprise releases stripped-back cut of The Fate of Ophelia

Taylor Swift has surprise released The Fate of Ophelia (Alone In My Tower – Acoustic Version), exclusively on iTunes.

The pop megastar’s chart-topping lead single from her latest record-breaking LP, The Life of a Showgirl, has spent the past three weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 and Official UK Singles Chart since its release on October 3.

And now, Taylor has unleashed a stripped-back rendition of the mega-hit on the music platform.

The Shake It Off hitmaker has now spent 38 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 throughout her career, meaning she has beaten a record previously held by the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, who spent 37 weeks at the top of the chart.

The album had already surpassed a record set by Adele’s 25, achieving the biggest opening week in US history.

The 35-year-old singer’s 12th studio album has shattered multiple records, including dethroning the Hello singer’s 2015 LP, surpassing 3.5 million album sales — including physical copies and streaming — according to music data giant Luminate.

In its debut week a decade ago, 25 opened with 3.378 million copies sold.

Within just 24 hours, The Life of a Showgirl shifted 2.7 million units in the US alone — marking the biggest single-day sales of Taylor’s career and the second-highest opening week total since Luminate began tracking in 1991, trailing only Adele’s 25 at the time.

The album also smashed Spotify’s record for the most-streamed album in a single day, while lead single The Fate of Ophelia became the most-streamed song in a single day in the platform’s history.

On vinyl, Taylor set a new benchmark by selling 1.2 million copies in one week, overtaking her own previous record set by The Tortured Poets Department.
