Taylor Swift interlopes George Michael on The Life of a Showgirl

Taylor Swift has reportedly interloped George Michael on The Life of a Showgirl.

The 35-year-old pop megastar has a song called Father Figure on her hotly-anticipated 12th studio album, which is the same name as the late music legend’s 1987 hit.

Billboard has confirmation that the Shake it Off hitmaker will pay tribute to the original work, rather than sample the song.

George’s former partner recently said he believes the late singer would have been proud of Taylor’s upcoming tribute on The Life of a Showgirl, which arrives on Friday (03.10.25).

Kenny Goss – who was in a relationship with George from 1996 to 2009 – told TMZ that the Careless Whisper hitmaker would have totally approved of Taylor’s song and while he never met the 35-year-old pop star before his death in 2016, the art dealer is pretty sure he would have been a fan and appreciated someone of her standing taking an interest in his work.

Kenny himself is a big fan of Taylor’s music and though he had no idea she planned to interpolate Father Figure on her new album, it was a welcome surprise.

The album – which features Sabrina Carpenter on the title track – has just surpassed five million pre-saves on Spotify, eclipsing Taylor’s own record for The Tortured Poets Department.

Spotify is hosting a pop-up in New York City where Swifties can uncover Easter eggs and much more before the record’s release.

Taylor’s “dazzling” story behind the record will also play in cinemas from October 3.

Captioning a promotional poster of The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, the Love Story hitmaker announced on Instagram: “I hereby invite you to a *dazzling* soirée, The Official Release Party of a Showgirl: Oct 3 – Oct 5 only in cinemas!

“You’ll get to see the exclusive world premiere of the music video for my new single The Fate of Ophelia, along with never before seen behind-the-scenes footage of how we made it, cut by cut explanations of what inspired this music, and the brand new lyric videos from my new album The Life of a Showgirl.

“Looks like it’s time to brush off that Eras Tour outfit or orange cardigan … Tickets are on sale now. Dancing is optional but very much encouraged.

“Showtimes may vary, so check your local listings. (sic)”

In a separate video, Taylor discussed The Life of a Showgirl.

The Cruel Summer singer – who recently got engaged to 35-year-old Kansas City Chiefs tight end player Travis Kelce – said: “The CDs all have photocards in them, the vinyls have a poem inside, a unique poem, more images than we ever planned.

“We wanted this album to feel luxurious as a nod to the luxury that a showgirl puts on when she is on stage.”

What’s more, Taylor has launched her own SiriusXM station to promote The Life of a Showgirl – which will remain on air until October 19.

Taylor’s Channel 13 will be available to listeners in their cars on satellite channel 13 and via the SiriusXM app.

It went live 13 days before the release of The Life of a Showgirl.

Fans can expect huge hits, deep album cuts, From the Vault tracks and live performances.
