T in the Park to move sites

T in the Park will move to a new site next year.

The Scottish festival – which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year – will be held in Balado, Kinross, next month for the last time after organisers were forced to find a new location because of health and safety concerns at the disused airfield.

Health and Safety Executive’s had advised Perth and Kinross Council they had "substantial concer" over the BP Forties oil pipeline, which lies directly underneath the site and carriescrude oil from the North Sea to the petrochemical complex at Grangemouth.

A "top secret" new site is said to have been earmarked for the festival – which this year will be headlined by Biffy Clyro, Calvin Harris and Arctic Monkeys – and Stirling and Loch Lomond have been tipped as possible new locations.

T in the Park was first held at Strathclyde Park, in Lanarkshire, but moved to the bigger site in 1997.

Meanwhile, Lucozade Energy have announced their YES arena will return to the festival for the third time.

The YES arena can entertain 800 revellers at a time and boasts a selection of DJs, a bubbleologist, confetti canons, body zorbing and a Refuel bar, as well as a silent disco for after the music ends on the main stages.

After T in the Park, the arena will also pop up at Global Gathering in Stratford Upon Avon on 25 and 26 July, and the Chelmsford leg of Virgin Media’s V Festival on 16 and 17 August.

This year’s event is to be held between July 11 and July 13.
