Sue Perkins is being lined up to replace Jeremy Clarkson on ‘Top Gear’.
The 45-year-old presenter, who is perhaps best known for fronting ‘The Great British Bake Off’ and is currently dating fellow presenter Anna Richardson, is among the candidates being considered to replace the controversial TV personality, who was axed for punching producer Oisin Tymon last month.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper about the desire to revamp the show, a BBC source joked: "If we replaced Clarkson with a lesbian he’d be turning in his leather jacket."
Other candidates thought to be in the frame for the coveted role include model Jodie Kidd, but no one has yet been approached for the show, with the BBC seeing the overhaul of the programme as a long-term project rather than an urgent problem.
Motoring enthusiast and BBC Radio 2 presenter Chris Evans is another name to have been linked to the post, but he recently distanced himself from speculation he’s set to replace Clarkson, describing the claims as "nonsense".
Chris responded to the rumours late last month, saying: "This is not true. Not only is it not true – it’s absolute nonsense."
