Sue Johnston will appear in ‘Downton Abbey’.
The former ‘Coronation Street’ and ‘Royle Family’ actress has landed the role of a lady’s maid in the upcoming fifth series of the hit ITV period drama.
Sue will play Denker, a new lady’s maid to Dame Maggie Smith’s Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham.
The actress is among a slew of guest stars set to appear in the fifth series, including Richard E. Grant and Anna Chancellor.
Richard will play a house guest of the Crawleys, art historian Simon Bricker.
He recently revealed it was surreal being on the show’s set as he is a big fan of the drama.
He explained: "It’s just slightly odd when you’ve been a fan of the show and you suddenly find you’re one of the characters. It’s like going through the fourth wall. I had a really enjoyable time."
Meanwhile, show boss Julian Fellowes has called for ‘Downton’ to air in the UK and the US at the same time to avoid plot spoilers.
He said: "I want to have simultaneous transmission in America and Britain. The difficulty that we have is that people are discussing the series as it happens online before America’s seen it and on the internet we’re all in the same company. It’s madness."
