Studio reveals glimpse of new King Kong film

Legendary Entertainment’s Thomas Tull has confirmed they are to make a film based on King Kong’s home, Skull Island.

The company’s CEO confirmed the news at Comic Con this weekend when he claimed Legendary and Universal had "been tinkering around with one thing", before unveiling a short teaser trailer for the film.

Elaborating on the upcoming project, the film studio explained: "Previous works have touched on the island, but staying and exploring this mysterious and dangerous place offers Legendary the opportunity to take audiences deeper inside this rich world with a style and scope that parallels other Legendary productions."

The teaser for the new film – which is to be released in November 2016 – features a first-person shot that takes the viewer over stormy seas to an island, where King Kong comes into vision and can be seen roaring and beating his chest.

It has been rumoured that ‘Godzilla’ director Gareth Edwards has been handed the reigns on the new flick.

The last time King Kong appeared on the silver screen was in 2005, when acclaimed director Peter Jackson was given control of the project.

The film starred Naomi Watts, Jack Black, Adrien Brody and Andy Serkis, and won three Academy Awards, including Best Visual Effects.

Details of the new project are thin on the ground, but fans of the iconic character – who was first depicted in a movie in 1933 – will already be looking forward to his eagerly-awaited return.
