Story of My Life: Liam Payne teases honest new solo album

Liam Payne has poured his heart and soul into the songs on his new solo album.

The 30-year-old former One Direction star admitted he and his team rewrote a lot of the tracks on his follow-up to 2019’s ‘LP1’ because he needed them to be authentic.

Speaking as part of a fan event, where he performed his emotional new song ‘Teardrops’, Liam is quoted by The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column as saying: “This time, the scariest part is that every one of these songs is a story from my life.

“And they’re really close to me. I hope people feel that through every song, that I actually felt whatever it is you’re feeling right now listening to this.”

He added: “We’ve rewritten a lot of these songs based off the idea of where we’re going with this and also how I’m feeling as a person.

“I used to show up to sing a song, then go. Absolutely not this time. We’re going to have fun with this.”

‘Teardrops’, which arrived earlier this month, was co-written with NSYNC member JC Chasez.

Meanwhile, Liam’s former 1D bandmate, Zayn Malik, is gearing up to release his new solo album, which is also “raw and honest”, and completely self-penned.

The 31-year-old singer is putting out his fourth studio record ‘Room Under the Stairs’ on May 17 – his first since 2021’s ‘Nobody Is Listening’ – and it marks a departure from his old sound.

Taking part in ‘Hot Ones’, he spilled: “The new album is a very different sound to anything I’ve ever put out before.

“It’s just really raw and honest and I hope people get that when they listen to it, I hope they get some insight into how I’m feeling and the things I’ve been going through over the last six or seven years while I’ve been writing this record, and that’s the most important thing for me, I just want people to feel that they get a connection with the record.”
