Stormzy’s Ed Sheeran BRITs duet was ‘scariest thing’ he’s ever done

Stormzy’s performance of ‘Shape of You’ with Ed Sheeran at the 2017 BRIT Awards was the "scariest thing" he’s ever done.
The 23-year-old grime star has opened up about how terrifying it was to go up on stage at London’s The O2 arena with the 26-year-old flame-haired hunk to perform the remix version of his number one song in front of his peers, and he was so in awe by it all that he’s forgotten what happened on the night.
He admitted: "It was one of the scariest things I’ve ever done in my life.. "I don’t ever remember the performance … I just remember walking onto the stage and doing it.
"When I walk on, you can tell that there’s a split second where I notice ‘Oh the crowd likes this’ so I get excited. At first I was scared, but we smashed it out."
The ‘Big Up Your Boots’ hitmaker says they had to keep the duet a secret for months, but he feels the ‘Castle on the Hill’ hitmaker’s singer/songwriter sound mixed with his old school grime style is the perfect match and he is extremely "proud" of their collaboration.
Appearing on Channel 4’s ‘Sunday Brunch’ on Sunday (26.02.17), he said: "I think everyone is quite proud and happy about it.
"I feel like merging those two worlds – me and Ed make totally different styles of music, but coming together for something like that; it’s a good thing."
Stormzy unveiled his LP ‘Gang Signs & Prayer’ on Friday (02.24.17) but admitted he was a little worried when his mother finally gets a chance to listen it.
He previously said "My mum ain’t heard it, she will listen when it comes out. I think there’s going to be a few tunes where my mum is thinking, ‘I don’t care who Stormzy is that is not a good thing, why you saying that son?’ But I think there will be some things she can be proud of, it’s meaningful and from the soul."
It comes after Stormzy – whose real name is Michael Omari – played two surprise gigs in London on Friday (24.02.17) afternoon to mark the new release.
He performed songs including ‘Shut Up’ and ‘Big For Your Boots’ at Castlehaven Park in Camden, north London before heading over to Babmaes Street in Piccadilly, east London, for another performance.
