Stevie Wonder pays tribute to Prince at memorial concert

Stevie Wonder paid tribute to his late friend Prince at a memorial concert in Los Angeles on Friday night (06.05.16).
The ‘I Just Called to Say I Love You’ hitmaker was joined by Faith Hill, Eric Benet, Aloe Blacc and Deitrick Haddon as they performed for thousands of fans – all adorned in purple in honour of the fallen star – at the City Hall in California as a token of remembrance for the ‘Purple Rain’ hitmaker.
The 65-year-old singer closed with show with his very own version of Prince’s 1984 hit before telling the emotional concert-goers, "In the spirit of Prince, we gotta love one another. And we can’t just talk about it, we gotta be about it."
Fans had tears rolling down their faces as Eric belted out the lyrics to the legendary performer’s ‘Wanna Be Your Lover’ before teaming up with Deirick to sing ‘Raspberry Beret’.
Speaking to USA Today afterwards, Eric said: "There’s all this love out there for him. I know Prince is probably sitting on top of that building right now, we can’t see him, but he’s looking down and he’s like, ‘I’m feeling y’all for this.’ "
Although the three-hour long concert was mainly a celebration of Prince’s life, the event did take an emotional turn when a flock of doves were released during a performance of ‘When Doves Cry’ towards the end.
Despite the memorial service, the legendary singer – who tragically passed away at the age of 57 on April 21 at his home in Minnesota – is still yet to be laid to rest, although preparations for the funeral have started to get underway.
Speaking in a statement, the family said recently: "We would like everyone to know that, contrary to previous and current reports, there has been no memorial, funeral or tribute service for Prince that was organised or authorised by the family or Paisley Park representatives. Together, the family is planning an official memorial service and public event to take place in the near future."
