Steven Spielberg and Sam Mendes team up for Voyeur’s Motel

Steven Spielberg and Sam Mendes are teaming up for the big-screen adaptation of ‘The Voyeur’s Motel’.
Deadline reports that Steven will produce while Sam will direct the movie based on Gay Talese’s upcoming novel ‘The Voyeur’s Motel’, which tells the true-life story of a man who opened his own hotel in order to spy on his guests having sex.
Colorado resident Gerald Foos bought the 21-room motel almost 50 years ago in Denver and made a number of modifications to the rooms so that he could spy on guests from the attic.
He also kept detailed notes about what he saw, including extra-marital affairs and even an alleged murder.
He reached out to Talese via letter and the author visited him at his motel in 1980 to find out more about him.
In his original letter, Foos wrote: "The reason for purchasing this motel was to satisfy my voyeuristic tendencies and compelling interest in all phases of how people conduct their lives, both socially and sexually. . . . I did this purely out of my unlimited curiosity about people and not as just a deranged voyeur (sic)."
An excerpt of ‘The Voyeur’s Motel’ ran in the April 11 issue of the New Yorker magazine and the novel will be published on July 12 by Grove Press.
