Steve Carell wants musical role

Steve Carell wants to star in a musical.

The ‘Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day’ actor sang in a number of stage productions when he was a student, and would love to tread the boards once again, or show off his vocals on film even though he isn’t a great singer.

He said: "I did a bunch of musicals back on college, ‘Oklahoma’, ‘Cabaret’. I would love to do a musical some time.

"I can carry a tune, I don’t think I’m a great singer but I could fake it."

If he weren’t an actor, the 52-year-old star is convinced he would have become a teacher.

Asked what he would have done if he hadn’t acted, he said in an interview on UK station BBC Radio 2: "I would be a teacher at a prep school, I can almost guarantee I would be teaching history and English and coaching a sport, perhaps hockey."

Meanwhile, Steve has revealed he made barely any money from either of the ‘Anchorman’ movies but insists that was never his motivation for appearing in the films with Will Ferrell.

Asked whether ‘Anchorman’ or ‘The Office’ made him more money, he said: "A long running TV show like ‘The Office’, that would make more money. ‘Anchorman’, especially the first one, I was a complete unknown and made very little money, the second one we just wanted to come back, it wasn’t about making money, it was just for the love of it. It was just fun to do, it was ridiculous and silly, just hanging out with those guys was a party."
