An untitled Steve Carell movie has been scrapped in response to the recent Sony hack.
Following a series of threats made by a group known as Guardians of Peace, it’s been decided that the movie – which was set in North Korea – should not continue as planned.
Entertainment firm New Regency has opted to bin its latest project set in the Communist state over safety fears, according to Deadline.
The film was due to begin shooting in March, with Gore Verbinski having already been installed as director on the "paranoid thriller" movie.
The news comes shortly after it was confirmed that Seth Rogen and James Franco’s new movie ‘The Interview’ will no longer be released this month.
Sony Pictures Entertainment cancelled the film’s planned release in the US after several cinema chains refused to screen the movie, which concerns an assassination attempt on North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
In a statement, the studio said: "In light of the decision by the majority of our exhibitors not to show the film ‘The Interview,’ we have decided not to move forward with the planned December 25 theatrical release.
"We respect and understand our partners’ decision and, of course, completely share their paramount interest in the safety of employees and theatre-goers."
