Steve Carell jokes about ‘dense’ new film

Steve Carell is impressed the entire plot of a children’s book was squeezed into his new film, ‘Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day’.

The movie is based on Judith Viorst’s 1972 children’s book of the same name, and Carell has joked that it was tough to condense the contents of the book into a movie – which also stars Jennifer Garner, 42.

The 52-year-old comedian said: "It was 28 pages long. Tough to get through. I was supposed to read it but it was too dense for me and I kept flashing ahead to see how it ended. I was a little impatient.

"I don’t know how they managed to squeeze it in. It seemed like an impossibility but they were able to condense that narrative down to 81 minutes. It could have been a trilogy."

The ‘Anchorman’ star plays the role of a dad in the new film and it’s caused him to reflect on the embarrassing things his own children have done.

He recalled: "My children have carved their initials into fine tables and that but they’re just being kids. You can try to adjust their behaviour but we tend not to get overly excited about stuff like that.

"It’s an annoyance but you just try to get them to understand that that’s not what you do… you don’t write with permanent marker on the walls."
