Steve Backshall has left ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The television presenter danced the jive with Ola Jordan but lost out in the dance-off to Sunetra Sarker and her partner, Brendan Cole, who danced the waltz.
Speaking of his time on the show, Steve said: "To all my fellow contestants, the absolute highlight is seeing these people, who have become really good friends of mine – it has blown my mind seeing Mark [Wright] blossom from nothing into a superstar, seeing Jake [Wood]’s salsa, Sunetra’s american smooth, Judy [Murray]’s foxtrot …
"I am just absolutely bursting with pride at everything you all achieved and I think that’s why everyone loves ‘Strictly’ because it’s this incredibly lifting experience and seeing that anyone can learn to dance."
Steve’s dancing partner, Ola, spoke highly of his effort and determination.
She said: "You were absolutely brilliant to teach and work with. You struggled a lot with your injuries and you worked so hard and you gave one hundred per cent in training, so thank you so much."
Steve – who is the eighth person to leave the dancing competition – admitted that he wasn’t the best dancer when he entered the show.
He explained: "I don’t think you can underestimate the achievement it is, to take someone who was quite as bad as I was to get them to week nine, it’s quite an achievement."
