Steps wouldn’t have reunited without all five of them

Lisa Scott-Lee says Steps wouldn’t have reunited without all five members agreeing to take part.
The 41-year-old singer is thankful that her fellow band mates, Faye Tozer, Claire Richards, Lee Latchford-Evans and Ian ‘H’ Watkins, all wanted to make a comeback to mark their 20th anniversary with a tour and new album this year as she feels it would have "watered down" their success over the last two decades if only a couple of them wanted to celebrate the milestone.
Asked if they would have done a Spice Girls – who planned to reform as GEM with just Geri Horner, Emma Bunton and Mel B opting to mark their 20th anniversary without Victoria Beckham and Mel C – and make a comeback with only a few of them, she exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "No. We actually all agreed that we would only do this if the five of us were involved. We feel it would water down the success we’ve had if it wasn’t all five of us. It really needs to be the original line up and fortunately everybody wanted to do it so there was no dragging anybody along."
The ‘Chain Reaction’ hitmaker is adamant that none of them need any persuasion to get back together and that they started thinking about ideas for their comeback in 2012, while on their ‘Ultimate Tour’.
Lisa added: "It didn’t take any persuading. We always said we wanted to mark our 20th anniversary. We pretty much planted the seed five years ago when we did our last arena tour. We’ve spent the last two years planning this comeback."
When quizzed on whether they were back for good, Lisa said that they’d "love" to be, but they want to wait and see how their fans respond to their new album ‘Tears on the Dancefloor’ and the live shows, which kick off on November 13 at Dublin’s 3Arena and conclude at Manchester Arena on December 2.
She said: "We would love to. I think we need to see what the reaction is from our fans. We really wanted to come back and have new music this time. It has been a long time since we’ve released a studio album and all of the fans haven’t stopped asking on social media, this is what they wanted. So we wanted to say thank you for 20 years of support."
Steps release their new single ‘Scared Of The Dark’ on Friday (10.03.17) and ‘Tears on the Dancefloor’ is slated for release on April 21.
