Star Wars costume designer John Mollo dies

Costume designer John Mollo has died.
The Oscar-winning designer – who was most famous for his work on ‘Star Wars’ passed away at the age of 86 earlier this week, it has been confirmed.
Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker in the sci-fi franchise, paid tribute to John on Twitter.
He shared a number of images on Twitter and wrote: "Sad to say goodbye to the brilliant John Mollo. He kindly let me pore through his designs-artwork & books.(sic)"
John won an Oscar in 1977 for his work on ‘Star Wars’ – which included adapting Ralph McQuarrie’s concept art for the iconic costumes worn by the Stormtroopers and Darth Vader – and picked up another alongside Bhanu Athaiya for ‘Gandhi’, which starred Sir Ben Kingsley.
He also worked on a number of other classic films, such as ‘Alien’, ‘The Legend of Tarzan’, ‘Chaplin’, ‘Air America’, ‘The Three Musketeers’, and ‘Lord of the Apes’.
He was also a military historian who wrote books about military costumes and worked as an advisor on movies such as ‘Charge of the Light Brigade’, ‘Barry Lyndon’, ‘Nicholas and Alexandra’ and ‘Zulu Dawn’.
Speaking about John’s work, ‘Star Wars’ creator George Lucas previously said: "I wanted somebody that really knew armour, somebody who was more into military hardware rather than somebody who knew how to design for the stage.
"I wanted designs that wouldn’t stand out, which would blend in and look like they belonged there."
