Stacey Dooley didn’t want ‘cliche’ romance

Stacey Dooley didn’t want her romance with Kevin Clifton to be a "cliche".
The 33-year-old presenter met her boyfriend Kevin when she was partnered with him during the 2018 series of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, but has said she hates thinking of their romance in terms of the infamous "Strictly curse", because it’s "so cringe and cheesy".
Stacey was in a relationship with Sam Tucknott when she was on the BBC Latin and ballroom dance competition, but insisted she didn’t fall victim to the curse – in which celebrities fall for their dance partners – in the same way others have done, because her romance with Kevin happened "much later".
She told BBC Radio 5’s ‘Headliners’ podcast: "I didn’t want to be such a cliche – it’s so cringe and cheesy. I want to be cooler than this. Kev and I were pals for such a long time.
"I liked hanging out with him. So it was much later down the line for us."
Meanwhile, Stacey has already thought about having children with the 37-year-old dancer – who departed ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ earlier this month – as she recently said he would make an "amazing father".
She said: "He is an angel. He is the kindest man I’ve met. His temperament is very chilled and he would be an amazing father."
However, the documentary filmmaker has concerns about starting a family after witnessing "morbid" social-issues around the world.
She continued: "I think I want to have kids I’m sort of back and forth.
"I love the idea of having a gang, a unit, an us against the world. I love all that. And I would to take care of someone. But I’m also quite morbid and because I’ve seen so much s**t, I think what am I bringing them into."
