Spider-Man’s Tom Holland joins The Current War

Tom Holland has joined the cast of Alfonso Gomez-Rejon’s The Current War.
The 20-year-old actor, who entered the spotlight this year with his debut as Spider-Man in ‘Captain America: Civil War’, will star alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael Shannon and Nicholas Hoult in the period legal drama.
Michael Mitnik has penned the script based Thomas Edison (Cumberbatch) and George Westinghouse’s (Shannon) courtroom battle over the distribution of electricity and who was going to decide the future of the industry in the 1880.
Hoult will play inventor Nikola Tesla while Holland will star as Edison’s right hand man and Katherine Waterston was recently announced to take on the role of Westinghouse’s wife.
Production is due to kick off next month however ‘The Current War’ is in a race to reach cinemas with ‘Imitation Game’ duo Morten Tyldum and Graham Moore’s version of the story.
The pair is behind an adaptation of Moore’s book about the fight titled ‘The Last Days Of Night’ and they’ve drafted in Eddie Redmayne to play lawyer Paul Cravath, who defended Westinghouse from a lawsuit by Edison
Meanwhile, Holland will be preparing himself for the release of ‘Spider-man: Homecoming’ which is out next summer and is his first outing in a standalone movie about the young web-slinger.
Holland said recently he feels like the "luckiest kid alive" to have nabbed the role.
Admitting the suit can be uncomfortable, he said: "The suit’s not the greatest thing, but sometimes when it’s uncomfortable, you just have to remind yourself of the long list of actors that would love to be in that suit and you just go, ‘do you know what, f**k it. I’m the luckiest kid alive. I deserve to be here and I’m going to give it my best.’"
