SJP endorses Cynthia Nixon as NY Governor

Sarah Jessica Parker has urged New York voters to forget ‘Sex And The City’ when considering Cynthia Nixon as a candidate for governor.
The 53-year-old actress has publicly backed her 52-year-old co-star, who is challenging current Governor Andrew M. Cuomo in this year’s Democratic primary, and admitted her running for the prestigious position is "always good for conversation".
Sarah – who has worked with Cynthia on the hit show and movies since 1998 – told ‘Entertainment Tonight’ said: "Well we have to separate Cynthia from all the extraordinary acting she’s done.
"I think her candidacy is exciting for a lot of people and even the Democratic Party. It’s good. It always is good for conversation, for thinking about policy and discussing policy, especially as it affects not just our city, but upstate. [It’s] equally as important. So I think it’s exciting and I think she’s an incredibly bright, extraordinary woman."
The ‘Little Manhattan’ star has defended her decision to run for governor with no previous political experience, insisting she is using the platform of celebrity for good.
Cynthia said: "I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with celebrity in politics.
"It gives you a platform, but it’s what you choose to do with that platform. Do you choose to give yourself and other one-percenters a massive tax break that they don’t need, or do you choose to advocate for important things that need your voice, like LGBTQ equality or women’s health or women’s rights – including a woman’s right to choose – or better public schools, which I have been advocating for and fighting for, for the better part of 20 years? I think that’s the kind of résumé a progressive leader of New York state should have right now."
Sarah previously endorsed her former co-star on social media, writing: "@cynthiaenixon A mother. An activist. An advocate. A fighter. A NY’er. A dear friend. Running for Governor of our great state. My sister on and off screen, you have my love, support and vote. (sic)"
‘Sex And The City’ star Kristin Davis, 53, has also been campaigning hard for her friend.
She previously tweeted: "I am so proud of @CynthiaNixon , no one cares more than she does about EVERY person getting a fair change and a good education. I know that she would be an excellent Governor!
"I’m excited to support someone I have know for 20 years to be one of the most intelligent and caring people in my life! (sic)"
Cynthia is best known for playing lawyer and single mother Miranda in ‘Sex And The City’.
The actress – who has children Samantha, 21, and Charles, 15, with ex-husband Danny Mozes – is married to education activist Christine Marinoni, with whom she has a six-year-old son Max.
