Sir Paul McCartney receives Gold Blue Peter badge

Sir Paul McCartney finally feels he’s "made it" after being honoured with a Gold Blue Peter Badge.
The Beatles legend was given the iconic accessory before his performance at London’s The O2 in December and can be seen receiving the prestigious honour on the long-running children’s show on Thursday (07.02.19).
Paul, who was chosen to receive the badge for inspiring generations of people with his music, said: "That is beautiful, that’s a great badge. I will wear it with great pride. Yes! I made it!"
During his appearance on the programme, the 76-year-old musician also offered some tips on young people for how to write songs – even though he admitted he still "doesn’t know" what to do.
He told presenter Lindsey Russell: "The only advice really is to do it… a lot.
"I have a song-writing class and the first thing I say to them is, look, I don’t really know how to do this – and at first they kind of look at me, but when you think about it there is no formula.
"I know how to write one of my songs but I can’t say ‘you do it that way’, because it’s a very personal thing. So the advice really is to just do whatever it is you’re doing… a lot!"
The Gold Blue Peter Badge is the show’s highest honour and is awarded in recognition of those who show great expertise, are good role models and have encouraged and motivated children across many generations.
‘Blue Peter’s Editor Ewan Vinnicombe said: "Sir Paul McCartney has inspired generations of Blue Peter viewers to love music and be creative – a core value of Blue Peter. I’m thrilled that we have been able to honour the legend that is Sir Paul with our highest accolade – a Gold badge."
Previous recipients of the badge have included J.K. Rowling, David Beckham, Ed Sheeran, Madonna, Sir Peter Jackson, Queen Elizabeth, her grandson Prince William and his wife Duchess Catherine.
