Sir Bruce Forsyth has quit Strictly Come Dancing

Sir Bruce Forsyth has quit ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ after 11 series.

The 86-year-old presenter has been the host of the celebrity dance contest since it first began in 2004 but he’s now decided to step down from his role, although he will continue to present the Christmas and Children In Need Specials and other one-off shows.

Bruce said: "After 10 wonderful years and 11 series, I believe it is now the right time to step down from the rigours of presenting the Strictly live shows. I am very proud of what the show has achieved and confident it will entertain the nation for many years to come.

"I am also delighted that by presenting the Christmas and Children in Need shows I will continue to have a strong association with Strictly."

The legendary entertainer has previously admitted to struggling with the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ filming schedule and had to take a break from the last series due to illness.

Mark Linsey, Entertainment Commissioning Controller for the BBC, said: "He [Bruce] is the all-time master and commander when it comes to Great British entertainers and Strictly owes him such a great deal."

"This is not a farewell, but you can’t blame him for wanting to take things a little bit easier."

BBC One’s official Twitter account echoed the sentiment writing: "Sir Bruce is one of the great showbiz legends of our time and @bbcstrictly’s success is due in vast amounts to him. This is not farewell."
