Simon Cowell told Megan McKenna she’d never make it as a country star

Simon Cowell told Megan McKenna she’d never make it as a country singer.
The ‘Only Way is Essex’ star auditioned for ‘The X Factor’ twice in 2015 and, although she’s regularly praised for her incredible vocals, she was snubbed during the infamous Six Chair Challenge because the singing show’s boss didn’t think she’d be able to make a name for herself because she’s got a strong Essex accent.
Speaking to Jim Hill and Vick Hope for 4Music’s Trending Live, she said: "I don’t really know what happened. I was a bit fuming actually but I got through to the six chair challenge. I was obviously singing country music but Simon Cowell was just a little bit like ‘but you’re from Essex can you really sing country music?’ "
However, the 25-year-old beauty has managed to prove the 58-year-old music mogul wrong as she went to Number 1 on the iTunes Download Chart last month just hours after she dropped her debut single ‘High Heeled Shoes’, while her second song ‘Far Cry From Love’ – inspired by her ex-boyfriend Pete Wicks – claimed Number 2.
Megan saw her singing career take off after her three-part series ‘There’s Something About Megan,’ which saw her travel to Nashville in a bid to learn the trick of the trade while performing in some of the city’s most famous venues, hit television screens.
She said recently: "Singing is my No 1. I am going to keep my performance side of things separate. I am not going to perform on ‘TOWIE’. Do you really think you’re going to have the whole of the ‘TOWIE’ cast clicking along to a country song? I don’t think so."
Megan is currently working on her debut album and has teased that the songs on that LP will be written about her previous boyfriends.
She said: "I am going to write about my exes – you have to write about previous relationships. Song writing is very personal and I think throughout my life I’ve had so many things happen to me. I have so many stories to tell including ex boyfriends and ex friendships. I was bullied at school and grew up in that environment with girls not liking me. This is all going to put into my songs. I am a very honest person."
