Bryan Singer has hit back at "sick and twisted" claims he sexually abused a 15-year-old boy.
The 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' director has broken his silence on a lawsuit filed last week by Michael F. Egan, 31, who claims he was forced to perform sex acts on the filmmaker at a Californian house party in the late 1990s after being plied with drugs and alcohol.
As a result of the allegations, Bryan, 48, has decided to bow out of the upcoming media tour to promote his blockbuster new 'X-Men' movie, which stars a string of A-listers including Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence and Halle Berry.
In a statement issued through his publicist, Bryan said: 'The allegations against me are outrageous, vicious and completely false.
"I do not want these fictitious claims to divert ANY attention from 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'. This fantastic film is a labour of love and one of the greatest experiences of my career. So, out of respect to all of the extraordinary contributions from the incredibly talented actors and crew involved, I've decided not to participate in the upcoming media events for the film."
As well as strenuously denying the sex abuse claims, Bryan believes the lawsuit filed in Hawaii by Michael is a "shake down" for money.
He added: "I promise when this situation is over, the facts will show this to be the sick twisted shake down it is. I want to thank fans, friends and family for all their amazing and overwhelming support."
In a lawsuit filed last week, Michael's attorney alleges the Hollywood director performed sex acts on the then teenager and forced him to do the same.
It's also claimed Bryan promised the young aspiring actor a movie role and regularly met Michael for sexual liaisons at the ages of 15 and 16, and they took multiple trips to Hawaii when he turned 17.

Justin Bieber was detained for several hours at LAX airport in Los Angeles yesterday (24.04.14).
The Canadian pop star was held by customs and immigration staff upon his return to the country after visiting Japan, but officials insist his detainment was "routine" following his legal troubles, such as an arrest for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) in January.
A source told UsMagazine.com: "It was a routine secondary set of questioning that Justin has to go through now every time he comes back in the country because he's a foreign national. It's standard, especially after he has had other legal issues in the US in the past."
Justin's detainment comes a week after the White House responded to a petition seeking to deport the 'Confident' star back to his native Canada.
The White House said in a statement: "Sorry to disappoint, but we won't be commenting on this one. We'll leave it to others to comment on Mr. Bieber's case, but we're glad you care about immigration issues. Because our current system is broken. Too many employers game the system by hiring undocumented workers, and 11 million people are living in the shadows."
Justin was briefly detained by officials at New Jersey's Teterboro Airport in February when he flew in from Canada for the Super Bowl.
The star's private plane was searched for drugs after receiving an anonymous tip-off and he was questioned.
Justin was forced to apologise for any offence caused earlier this week after he visited the Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo, Japan.
The shrine honours Japan's war dead, but is a controversial site as it also recognises several World War II war criminals.

Kelly Clarkson hopes her daughter will "laugh a lot".
The 'Stronger' hitmaker is expecting her first child with husband Brandon Blackstock and made a wish on her 32nd birthday yesterday (24.04.14) that her baby will make motherhood easy for her.
She tweeted: "It's my birthday!!!! For my birthday I have asked my unborn baby girl to sleep through the night and laugh a lot when she comes out 🙂 (sic)".
And the baby is sure to laugh a lot as Kelly's friend Martina McBride recently admitted she thinks the singer will be a "fun" mother.
The country star said: "She's really fun. Kelly's outgoing and very direct and I feel like she's be a fun mom.
"She has a really good head on her shoulders and she's a strong person. I think that will be good for her and her child as well."
The 'Breakaway' singer married Brandon, who has two children from his first marriage, Seth, seven, and Savannah, 11, in a low-key ceremony in Tennessee last October, and shortly afterwards she admitted she couldn't wait to get pregnant.

The 'Goodies' singer is due to give birth to her first child any when now, and she admits her beau Future's wardrobe has been her saviour over the last nine months.
She explained: "I feel like pregnancy has been a great fashion challenge because you can't wear things that you used to wear and you still want to feel like who you are. I have to pay some credit to my fiancé's closet, because I literally have worn probably all of his clothes."
However, the 28-year-old star admits it's been nice to relax her gym routine and embrace her changing figure.
Speaking to WMag.com, she said: "It feels good to not have to wonder whether your abs are tight enough. I like not being so perfect."
Meanwhile, the couple - who got engaged in October last year - announced they are expecting their first child together in January.
The brunette beauty has remained tight-lipped on the sex of the tot, but Future let slip that their firstborn was likely to be a boy after referring to the baby as "him" in an interview.
Ciara has been busy preparing for the arrival of her child and invited a dozen of her closest pals, including Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner, to her baby shower in West Hollywood, California, last month.

Bethenny Frankel has been ordered to pay $100,000 to her ex-husband Jason Hoppy's attorney.
The TV personality has been forced to cover her former lover's legal fees as their divorce enters its 16th month, but it is believe she will be reimbursed once they have reached a settlement, according to TMZ.com.
According to court documents obtained by the site, the brunette beauty "has to immediately hand over what amounts to an advance payment to Jason's attorney."
Since filing for divorce in December 2012, the former couple have been locked in a bitter legal battle over the custody of their three-year-old daughter Bryn and the money that was made during their two-year marriage.
However, a source told RadarOnline.com: "Jason would like to get the divorce and custody settled, once and for all but Bethenny is making it impossible."
Meanwhile, it was recently reported that Bryn has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation as part of the proceedings and the ex-lovers must hand over all past mental and health records for their daughter.

The Black Eyed Peas frontwoman has revealed seven-month-old Axl Jack - her first child with husband Josh Duhamel - is beginning to experiment with words.
Fergie explained to E! News: " He's actually talking now--well, formulating what he thinks are words. We're just kind of trying to figure it out. He keeps saying, 'Ba, ba', we think it's ball. He says it when the ball's around so we're thinking first word, ball - maybe?
"He also says, 'Ma ma ma'. I don't know if he's directing it towards me, but I'm thinking mama."
The 39-year-old singer recently admitted she and Josh, who got married in January 2009, have been trying to teach the cute tot little easy words.
She said last month: "The best part of being a mum is just hanging out with my kid. He's my homie! I'm just listening, talking back with him and trying to teach him words like 'nose' and 'dancing'. Daddy is trying to teach him 'ball' and I'm trying to teach him 'dance'."
Axl has also been using "high-pitched" squeals to get his parents attention and express when he's excited.
Fergie explained: "He's a screamer! There's always this high-pitched scream going throughout the house. It's not him complaining or crying. He just gets excited and he wants to scream!"

Miley Cyrus has been discharged from hospital.
The 'Wrecking Ball' hitmaker is "feeling much better" after spending over a week under the watchful eye of doctors following a severe allergic reaction to antibiotics.
A source told E! News: "She is feeling much better and Europe [tour] is still on."
The 21-year-old singer, who was hospitalised on April 15, was forced to reschedule her US 'Bangerz' tour after her body rejected Cephalexin she was taking to treat a sinus infection, but the European leg of the tour, which is scheduled to kick off on May 2, will proceed as planned.
A statement released on her website last week said: "All remaining US dates on the Miley Cyrus 'Bangerz' tour have been postponed. Miley is continuing to recover from the severe allergic reaction she suffered on April 15.
"Existing tickets will be honoured on the new dates, which include previously cancelled and postponed dates."
The blonde beauty vented her frustration from her hospital bed last week after she was forced to cancel her show in her hometown Nashville, Tennessee, on April 17.
She wrote on Twitter at the time: "Sick of waking up to needles #goingthruit #floydfriday (sic)."
Miley's illness follows her devastation after her beloved dog Floyd passed away earlier this month, which left her feeling "exhausted" and "physically sick".
