Zac Efron admits the fight he was involved in in March was the "most terrifying" time of his life.
The 26-year-old actor - who endured two stints in rehab last year - was recently involved in a mysterious altercation with a "homeless guy" in Los Angeles and admits he had never been more scared than when the man pulled out a knife.
Recalling the incident, he told The Hollywood Reporter: "I had a friend come pick me up late at night -- we were looking for a place downtown to get a bite and catch up.
"We were having trouble finding somewhere - a lot of places were closed - and the car ran out of gas off the 110. It was ridiculous. We had to pull over, and I called Uber.
"[While waiting] a homeless guy, or vagrant, tapped on the driver's-side window. Before I knew it, he [my friend] was out of the car, and they started fighting."
Zac claims he got out of the car to help his friend - who was previously reported as being a bodyguard - "disarm" his opponent, and he was relieved when police arrived to diffuse the situation.
He added: "I saw that [the homeless man] was carrying some sort of a knife, or shank, and I got out of the car to disarm him.
"At some point, he dropped the knife, and I got hit pretty hard in the face - and almost instantly the police were there to break up the fight...
"It was the most terrifying moment of my life."
Following the terrifying incident, friends of the 'Neighbors' actor - who broke his jaw in a fall at home last November - admitted they were worried about his sobriety and questioned the intentions of his pal, who they claimed was actually a drug dealer.

Paul Walker's daughter reportedly feels "betrayed" by her grandmother.
The late star's mother Cheryl Ann had dropped her petition to become legal guardian of 15-year-old Meadow after reaching an agreement out of court with the teenager's mother Rebecca Soteros, but a court has refused to dismiss the case.
Appointing an attorney for Meadow and ordering an investigation into her care, Commissioner David Cowan said yesterday (30.04.14): "It is up to the court to decide whether guardianship case should be granted or denied."
And Meadow - who had been staying with Cheryl Ann when her father was killed in car crash - is said to feel "betrayed" that her grandmother applied for guardianship without consulting her, arguing Rebecca had an alcohol problem and was unable to care for the teenager, and is also "hurt and unhappy" that she wasn't told her dad's brothers Cody and Caleb will appear in 'Fast & Furious 7'.
Meadow, who moved to California from Hawaii in 2011 to be closer to her father is currently staying with a family friend but wants to move back in with her mother.
A source told E! News: "Meadow is doing well and still in school and spending time with her friends like any teenager.
"She soon hopes to move into a new home in the LA area with her mom."
It was previously reported that Cheryl had promised to abandon her custody bid if Meadow's mother sought treatment in rehab for her "serious drinking problem".
Rebecca promised to check into rehab immediately and also agreed to regular drug testing after completing her stint as being with Meadow is the "most important thing" to her.
The youngster is set to inherit Paul's entire fortune of a reported $25 million after he named her as the sole beneficiary in his will.
The star also appointed his father, Paul Walker Sr., as the executor, and stated that Cheryl should become Meadow's legal guardian.

Carrie Underwood's husband "stays out of her way" when she's working on her music.
The singer's spouse Mike Fisher preoccupies himself while she's going through "that whole creative process" and has been enjoying the time he has alone.
The sportsman said: "She's [Carrie] actually real busy doing a lot of writing and stuff.
"I've been just kind of hanging out, just kind of being home and enjoying that.
"I stay out of her way. I go golfing or go fishing or something."
Meanwhile, the country singer gets "jacked up on caffeine" to help her focus.
Carrie said: "He stays away. That whole creative process is such a weird thing, and I've talked to other people in the music business and friends and what they do and we all kind of have our own 'isms.'
"I go in and I'm like caffeinated. I get jacked up on caffeine and then I come home and crash."
The blonde beauty - who was catapulted to the spotlight after winning 'American Idol' in 2005 - is excited about sharing her fifth studio album with her fans and insists it's different to her previous records.
Carrie told Us Weekly magazine: "I've been writing quite a bit, it's exciting!
"It definitely has a different sound. There are some thematic things that are quite different. I love strong women. So I want things that I can get on stage and just feel empowered."

Victoria Beckham has rejected a request to design Kim Kardashian's wedding dress.
The 40-year-old fashion designer was reportedly approached earlier this year about creating a gown for the reality TV star's impending nuptials to Kanye West, but asked her team to inform the brunette beauty she was too busy, though insiders say she refused as she was concerned about "devaluing" her brand.
A source told the Daily Star newspaper: "Kim was desperate to wear a VB dress for her big day but Victoria deals with the very A-list of the showbiz world, including royals, and doesn't want to be dragged into the world of reality stars.
"She also doesn't really do wedding dresses."
It has been claimed that Kim and Kanye - who have 10-month-old daughter North together - are set to marry in a secret ceremony in the coming days, and the 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' star was seen boarding a flight to France earlier this week.
The couple were rumoured to be having a lavish wedding extravaganza in Paris in front of all their family, friends and celebrity acquaintances, but it has been claimed they are going to break with expectations by holding a highly secretive ceremony this week.
Kim, 33, and Kanye, 36 are so intent on keeping their nuptials private that they have secured a "confidential" marriage license so no one officially knows.
However, the lovebirds want to make up for their minimalist big day with an extravagant bash in the days following the event.

Bob Geldof is getting married.
The Boomtown Rats frontman has proposed to longterm girlfriend Jeanne Marine after 18 years together, and the couple hope the happy news will give their family something to focus on following the tragic death of his daughter Peaches last month.
Jeanne's friend Jerry Hall told the Daily Mail newspaper: "Bob has proposed. She is over the moon.
"Jeanne Marine has been a rock and a tower of strength over this. I'm so excited for her I am bursting to tell someone.
"Bob and Jeanne have been through hell, but they are determined something positive will come out of it.
"After all the sadness, we need something to focus on which will bring joy and light."
Jeanne revealed her happy news to Jerry when the Texan model returned to the UK for Peaches' recent funeral.
She added: "I've just got back from Texas and accompanied Jeanne to the funeral. It was, of course, terribly sad, but she told me that Bob had asked her to marry him out of the blue.
"I'm so happy for her. It makes you realise we all have to value what we have."
Bob, 62, began dating 49-year-old Jeanne after meeting at a dinner party in Paris, where he had fled to after his divorce from Paula Yates - the mother of his children Fifi, 31, Peaches, and Pixie, 23 - in 1996.
Paula died of a heroin overdose four years later, and the 'I Don't Like Mondays' hitmaker took on the care of her and the late Michael Hutchence's daughter Tiger, now 17.
Meanwhile, it is expected to be announced today (01.05.14) that Peaches died of a heroin overdose.

J.B. Gill is set to get married in Scotland this Saturday (03.05.14).
The former JLS singer will tie the knot with his long-term girlfriend Chloe Tangney at a lavish ceremony at Mount Stuart country house on the Isle of Bute.
The Sun newspaper reports that the wedding banns - a public announcement in a Christian parish church of an impending marriage - were posted at the local register office.
Sources told the paper they saw massive catering vans arriving at the location earlier this week in preparation for the star-studded bash.
The manor house is the same place fashion designer Stella McCartney wed magazine publisher Alasdhair Willis in 2003.
J.B. - who has quit singing to concentrate on his farming career - popped the question to Chloe this January after five years of dating and was elated when she said yes.
The 27-year-old star recently confessed he was a "traditional" guy and wanted to settle down and start a family.
He said: "For me, it would be marriage, then babies. I'm traditional in that way, but it's definitely something I would like to focus on."
JLS split at the end of 2013 after five years together and J.B.'s bandmates Aston Merrygold, Marvin Humes and Ortise Williams were guests of honour at his recent stag party in Marbella, Spain.

Cara Delevingne refuses to "get naked" on screen.
The 21-year-old model - who is pursuing more acting roles after making her TV debut in 'Timeless' - claims she's been offered numerous parts in films but has rejected the scripts as they require her to strip down to her birthday suit.
She said: "I've had lots of film offers where I have to get naked. But I do have morals - and I want to keep them."
The blonde beauty - who is believed to be dating 'Fast and Furious' actress Michelle Rodriguez - confessed that although she enjoys modelling and is thankful for the opportunities it's presented her with, acting is her first love.
She said: "The first time I went on stage, I just wanted to be an entertainer, a performer.
"It's all I wanted - so doing this show is like living a dream. I prefer acting to modelling, although that's where I started and I'll never turn my back on it. I thank it for everything I've done."
Cara also admitted that she pursued a career in acting before she started modelling for brands such as Burberry and Chanel, but wasn't thick-skinned enough to handle being turned down.
She revealed: "I started auditioning for movies before I started modelling but I couldn't deal with the rejection. When I got turned down for something it would take me weeks to get over it. Now I still care but it's less of a hit."

One Direction were forced to switch hotels in Peru because of "screaming" fans.
Police urged the group - comprising Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson - not to return to their rooms at the Palacio Nazarenas in Cusco after a sightseeing trip to the ancient Machu Picchu ruins after officers struggled to stop excited girls from storming the building.
Around 250 fans had filled the tiny square outside the hotel, where rooms cost £350-a-night, and over 25 police officers attempted to disperse them, but eventually decided it would be best for the 'Little Things' hitmakers - who are on the South American leg of their 'Where We Are' world tour - to relocate.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "There were hundreds of screaming girls outside the hotel.
"Police were struggling to keep them back and keep them off the road.
"The fans with their posters nearly filled the entire square."
Following a night in a different hotel, the band flew out of Peru by private jet on Tuesday (29.04.14) to Santiago, Chile, for their next gig.
Last week, it was revealed over 6,000 police had been assigned to protect the quintet in Colombia to keep them safe from gun violence and kidnapping threats.
A source said: "No risks are being taken. The dangers in some of these countries are very real and that's why management have arranged the world's best security teams.
"There will be no wandering into the city for partying or sightseeing anywhere deemed dangerous - and Colombia is definitely dangerous."
The 'Story of My Life' group were escorted to and from El Campin stadium by police with a convoy of security vehicles and a team of more than 200 guards at the stadium.

George Clooney proposed to Amal Alamuddin over a home-cooked meal.
The 'Monuments Men' actor - whose engagement to the human rights lawyer was revealed earlier this week - popped the question with a seven-carat ring he designed himself after dinner at his Los Angeles home.
A source told the New York Post newspaper: "George cooked a meal himself for Amal at home on April 22, then he surprised her by getting down on bended knee and presenting her with the ring. He was so happy she accepted, he was calling friends with the news later that night."
The night after the proposal, the couple celebrated their happy news with friends at Craig's restaurant in Los Angeles, and onlookers say they were "just beaming".
And the celebrations didn't end there, as the following night Amal happily showed off her ring to pals including Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber at Nobu in Malibu.
George, 52, and Amal, 36, are now planning to marry later this summer, though it is unlikely they will tie the knot at the Hollywood hunk's estate in Lake Como, Italy.
The source said: "It's only four months away but they want to get married at the end of the summer, in early September, before Amal returns to work."
Another source added: "Lake Como would be a beautiful wedding location, but it may not give them any privacy. It is very easy for the public and paparazzi to see into the property."
George's spokesperson has refused to comment on the engagement and wedding arrangements, saying only: "I do not comment on his personal life."
