Christina Hendricks was dropped by her agency after accepting a role on 'Mad Men'.
Hendricks, 39, stars as Joan Harris on the AMC period drama set in an advertising agency and she's revealed her personal experiences with agencies are nearly as turbulent as those of her on-screen character.
She told The Guardian newspaper: "[My agency] said, 'It's a period piece, it's never going to go anywhere. We need you to make money and this isn't going to make money.' They ended up dropping me."
Hendricks explained that she and her manager were both charmed by the role of Joan, and soon realised that she had lots of potential to develop the character.
She added: "I had been on several shows that were meant to be the big ones, that would go on forever, and they didn't. So there was no sure bet and I'd already taken a chance on them, and I felt, why not do the one you're in love with and take a chance on that?"
Hendricks is currently starring in 'God's Pocket', a new movie featuring the late Philip Seymour Hoffman and Richard Jenkins.

Kit Harington and Rose Leslie are reportedly dating again.
The 'Game of Thrones' stars are said to have reconciled some time ago, almost a year after going their separate ways, but their rekindled romance isn't serious.
A source told Us Weekly magazine: "They've been back on for about three months.
"That said, it's casual right now and they're having fun."
Speculation the pair- who play Jon Snow and his lover Ygritte - had started once they were seen arriving together at Los Angeles International Airport ahead of appearing at the 'Game of Thrones' HBO panel at Comic-Con last month.
Both Kit and Rose are thought to be taking their renewed relationship slowly as the insider revealed they are not planning to take things to the next level just yet.
The source added: "They're not moving in together or anything like that yet."
Neither star has ever admitted to dating one another, but the 27-year-old actress did previously admit that her off-screen chemistry with Kit had helped when filming the more intense scenes together.
She shared: "It's a wonderful perk when you're able to get on with your co-star, and Kit is a wonderful, wonderful man,
"He's very lovely, charming, sweet, and incredibly funny, so having that dialogue off-screen certainly pushes for the relationship they have on-screen. And if you're willing to trust the other person and allow them to play on-screen with the scene, it's a lovely attribute to have."

Katie Price will "never, ever" wear her wedding ring again.
The former glamour model has reconciled with husband Kieran Hayler, who recently admitted to being unfaithful with her friends Chrissy Thomas and Jane Pountney, but admits they still have issues to resolve.
She told OK! magazine: "I'd like there to be a happy ending - who knows?
"I will never, ever wear my wedding ring again because he's broken every single vow and he knows it. I don't mind wearing my eternity ring and my engagement ring, because I know he was faithful then, but the actual wedding ring I won't wear."
Katie is currently pregnant with her fifth child - her second with Kieran - and thinks expecting another baby "saved her" during the stress of the last few months as it forced her to "take a step back".
She added: "The baby and my children have been my priority over the last few months. I know that sounds like a line, but being pregnant saved me. I had to take a step back for the sake of the child I was carrying.
"Thankfully the baby is absolutely fine, it's just me. You couldn't even make up what I've been through, it's that bad. I've never even seen it in a film."
However, the 36-year-old beauty - who has kids Harvey, 12, Junior, nine, and Princess, seven, from previous relationships, and 11-month-old Jett with Kieran - admits she is "hugely" concerned about the effect the incident will have on her four young children and unborn baby in the long term.
She added: "It's one of the reasons I took a step back. It's not just me, it would mess all of us up. I guess maybe I want to be able to look the kids in the eye and say I gave it every chance."

Frankie Sandford was left embarrassed when she was left dangling from her boat by her underwear on her honeymoon.
The Saturdays singer and new husband Wayne Bridge celebrated their recent marriage with a romantic holiday to the Seychelles, but the 'Higher' hitmaker admits things went wrong on a snorkelling trip.
She explained: "Wayne and I went snorkelling and I had flippers and goggles on.
"I jumped off the edge of the boat and my bikini bottoms got caught on a ladder, so I was hanging off the boat by my knickers.
"They were up by my shoulders so you can imagine the vision. I was trying to get Wayne's attention but he was sorting his goggles out at the time, so the poor man who works on the boat was trying to unhook me.
"He was trying to be professional and not laugh but he was giggling."
Despite the embarrassing situation, the brunette beauty insisted she was "devastated" her soccer star spouse - with who she has nine-month-old son Parker - didn't see what had happened because he would have found it "really funny".
She added to the MailOnline website: "Thank God, there were no paps around. They're really nice and baggy, those pants now.
"I couldn't stop laughing. I was devastated that Wayne didn't see because he would have found it really funny."

Jon Bon Jovi has promised to retain the Buffalo Bills' "passion" if he successfully buys the NFL side.
The 'Always' rocker has penned an open letter to fans in a bid to reassure them about their concerns over his desire to purchase the football team - which is for sale after owner Ralph Wilson died in March - insisting his ownership group's main objective is to "make the Bills successful in Buffalo."
In the letter, which was titled "Why We're Bidding on the Buffalo Bills" and published in the Buffalo News, he wrote: "There has been a lot of conjecture, so we think it's important to clarify our intentions to the fans of the team and people of Buffalo.
"I know how much the Bills mean to the people of this region. So I want you to hear this from me: I'm not risking it all to let you down. If we are given the chance to be the next owners of the Buffalo Bills, I promise you that we will bring the same passion that you do every Sunday, every day."
The New Jersey-born rocker went on to describe his intention to "carry on Ralph Wilson's legacy" in Buffalo, and said he and his two Toronto-born partners are committed to working with local officials to identify a new stadium site in the region.
Bon Jovi's letter comes after weeks of speculation that the rocker will relocate the team to Toronto, and his statement has been cast in doubt by The Bills Fan Alliance, a group of fans and business leaders.
The organisation's directors said: "While we appreciate his sentiment, it's worth noting that nowhere in his letter does he write or directly state that he will 'not move the Bills from Buffalo'."

Michael Lohan is worried his pregnant girlfriend will miscarry in prison.
The father of Lindsay Lohan has sought legal advice for his sake of his girlfriend, Kate Major who is currently five months pregnant and serving an eight-month sentence for driving under the influence (DUI).
Michael has now hired Jose Baez to obtain a court order to ensure that his girlfriend is receiving proper medical treatment after she reportedly suffered two incidents of vaginal bleeding.
Talking to TMZ, the 54-year-old showbiz patriarch vented: "You know damn well if someone has vaginal bleeding while pregnant that's indicative of a miscarriage."
Michael told the website that prison officials took Kate to an infirmary when she started to bleed and sent her back to her cell without seeing a specialist, though she was given an ultrasound scan which indicated a heartbeat in her unborn baby.
He also alleged Kate was forced to carry her own personal items back to her room while still bleeding.
Kate, who is already mother to Michael's 18-month-old son, Landon, is serving an eight-month sentence in Gun Club Road Jail in Palm Beach, Florida.
The former journalist was arrested in March 2013 after Michael - who has four other children, including Lindsay, with ex-wife Dina - called the police following a drunken feud.
Kate was pulled over by police where she tested three times over the drink drive limit.
At the time, Michael said: "I will stand by her through the whole thing, especially for the sake of our son.
"I just want her to get better, and I wish her the best."

Lara Stone hated being pregnant.
The 30-year-old model - who has 14-month-old son Alfred with husband David Walliams - found the changes her body went through when she was carrying her little boy "quite frightening" and worried she would never work again.
She said: "Being pregnant affected my work quite early on - it's not like you can work until you're eight months pregnant. It was quite frightening seeing my body change so much.
"Yes, I did worry about the impact, because my body is my job and my livelihood."
And though the Dutch beauty took a year off work to be with her son, she admits she was keen to get back to the catwalk as she hates "sitting around".
She added: "I like working and I don't like sitting around at home, so I really wanted to get back into things.
"It's nice once the baby's here, but then I was like, 'I really want to do something again.' "
Because the couple don't live near their families, Lara admitted she and her 42-year-old spouse are often forced to leave their son with nannies for several days when they are away working.
She told the Sunday Times Style magazine: "My family doesn't live near and my husband's family lives a couple of hours away, and both of our jobs are so unpredictable.
"Sometimes there is nothing you can do and you have to leave him with the nanny for a couple of days."

Anna Paquin will always be bisexual.
The 32-year-old actress - who has 22-month-old twins Charlie and Poppy with husband Stephen Moyer - was forced to correct veteran TV host Larry King, 80, when he queried whether marriage means she is now a "non-practising bisexual".
Speaking on a recent episode of 'Larry King Now', she said: "Well, I mean, I am married to my husband, and we are happily, monogamously married."
Larry then asked: "But you were bisexual?"
Anna replied: "I don't think it's a past tense thing. Are you still straight if you're with somebody? Doesn't mean you're not, if you were to break up with them or you were to die. It doesn't prevent your sexuality from existing. It doesn't really work like that."
Meanwhile, the 'True Blood' star - who plays Sookie Stackhouse opposite her spouse as Bill Compton in the vampire drama - admitted she relied heavily on "creative costuming" when shooting the programme while pregnant.
She said: "We tried to time it quite carefully and up until the last couple of episodes there was a lot of creative costuming. And then they just CGI-ed out the bump."
However, Anna admits she worried it would be "creepy" shooting a raunchy sex scene during her pregnancy, but felt it was done tastefully.
She added: "There was only one scene that we had to shoot while I was pregnant. Bill is having this fantasy while he's having sex with Salame, who turns into Lileth, and then it turns into me.
"So I was like, 'Oh wow, it's basically a... gang bang with my husband while I'm pregnant!' But we shot from shoulders up so it wasn't like, 'OK, that's actually really creepy!' "

Kerry Katona wants another baby with fiance George Kay.
The Atomic Kitten star - who has four children from her previous marriages and three-month-old daughter Dylan-Jorge with the former rugby player - plans to have more kids once she and her 34-year-old beau get married.
She said: "George wants to have another baby soon because he doesn't want to be an older dad and we'd like the children to be close in age."
Kerry's comments come just days after George was detained under the mental health act last week after a public meltdown - which he has blamed on a mixture of alcohol, steroids and sleeping pills - and despite claims their wedding is off because of his bizarre behaviour, the 33-year-old singer insists they will be tying the knot next month.
She told The Sun newspaper: "I know there have been rumours of the wedding being off but it is definitely going ahead.
"And it is not abroad - we are getting married in the UK."
George recently admitted he had been "stupid" in taking steroids.
He said: "They sent me doolally. I was in another world. I wasn't sleeping, so I was taking sleeping pills and I'd been drinking and taken steroids.
"I'd been up for the best part of four days. With the mixture of those things I think something had to give and, unfortunately, we had the incident that we had.
"I have been stupid.
"All I can say is, if you're thinking of taking steroids, look what happened to me.
"I've been foolish really. Regardless of why you're taking them, no good can come out of it or they can make you do absolutely ridiculous things like I did.
