Robin Williams' wife has revealed he had Parkinson's Disease at the time of his death.
Susan Schneider admits her husband, who committed suicide earlier this week, was in the "early stages" of the illness but was not ready to announce it publicly.
She released a statement, saying: "Robin's sobriety was intact and he was brave as he struggled with his own battles of depression, anxiety as well as early stages of Parkinson's Disease, which he was not yet ready to share publicly."
Robin, 63, was found at his home in California with a belt wrapped around his neck on August 11 and Susan hopes his tragic death will encourage other people to seek help before their own troubles become too much.
She added: "It is our hope in the wake of Robin's tragic passing, that others will find the strength to seek the care and support they need to treat whatever battles they are facing so they may feel less afraid."
Meanwhile, Susan is reportedly planning a "very private" funeral in the Bay Area of San Francisco for the 'Mrs. Doubtfire' star, and family members, including his 31-year-old son Zak, have begun flying into town ahead of the service.
It is believed the memorial will be intimate and for close friends and family - including his younger children Zelda, 25, and Cody, 22 - only.
A source said: "It's not official yet, but that's the plan. It will be small. They were both very private people."

Guy Pearce has confessed he has an addictive personality.
The Australian actor - who stars in 'The Rover' alongside Hollywood heartthrob Robert Pattinson - has previously confessed to having a problem with cannabis and although he no longer smokes the herbal drug he concedes he is always addicted to something.
Guy, 46, explained: "There's always a few things, but these days they tend to be healthier. I'm very aware of it.
"Even now, I'm drinking a coffee. I haven't drunk a coffee for years, and just in the past 12 months I've started drinking it again. I feel myself going, 'Yeah, I'll have another one, I'll have another one, another one.' Why can't I just have the one in a day?"
Asked about the recent global rise in legal marijuana, the 'Lockout' star said: "I have to be careful what I say. I can't be out there going, 'Drugs are great, man!' I have mixed feelings.
"On one level I think it should be legal and everybody should be able to do what they want, but on the other hand I'm aware that a massive percentage of the population can't handle it and do crazy things and hurt people or hurt themselves. So you can't generalise."

Simon Cowell is making a Betty Boop movie.
The music mogul's Syco Entertainment company and Animal Logic Entertainment are working together to bring the iconic cartoon character back to life on the big screen.
According to Variety, confirmed producers are Zareh Nalbandian and Jason Lust from Animal Logic - who were responsible for the animation on 'The Lego Movie' - and Cowell and Adam Milano from Syco. There is no director or writer attached to the project yet.
Cowell confirmed the news on his Twitter account, writing: "I've worked with some serious divas but I think Betty could be the biggest of them all! @bettyboopnews (sic)"
The post was accompanied by a photo of 'The X Factor' judge being silenced by Betty, who had her hand over his mouth.
The movie will be a hybrid project featuring live action and animation and it will also contain several songs.
Jazz flapper Betty made her first appearance in the black and white cartoon 'Dizzy Dishes' in 1930 and went on to feature in over 100 cartoons with her catchphrase "boop-oop-a-doop" becoming famous worldwide.
The bobbed-hair, short-skirted character also made a cameo in the 1988 Disney hybrid film 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit'.
Syco Entertainment and Animal Logic brokered a deal with Fleischer Studios - the company founded by Betty Boop creators, brothers Max Fleischer and Dave Fleischer - to make the movie.
Speaking about the deal, Mark Fleischer, chairman and CEO of Fleischer Studios, said: "I am delighted to partner with Syco Entertainment and Animal Logic. Their energy, creativity and playfulness make them a perfect fit for Betty Boop."
The Betty Boop movie is Cowell's latest foray into films following
the 'Pudsey the Dog' movie and Paul Potts biopic 'One Chance', which starred James Corden.
The star has previously admitted he watches cartoons everyday to relax when he's not working.

Sir Cliff Richard has been aware of sex offence allegations against him for "many months".
The 73-year-old star has released a statement following the news earlier today (14.08.14) that a property belonging to him in the Sunningdale area of Berkshire, South East England had been searched by police in relation to an alleged historical offence.
He said: "For many months I have been aware of allegations against me of historic impropriety which have been circulating online.
"The allegations are completely false. Up until now I have chosen not to dignify the false allegations with a response, as it would just give them more oxygen.
"However, the police attended my apartment in Berkshire today without notice, except it would appear to the press."
The 'Summer Holiday' hitmaker - who is currently believed to be residing at his home in Portugal - went on to reiterate that he disputes the allegation and claimed he would be more than willing to help the police with their investigation.
He added: "I am not presently in the UK but it goes without saying that I will cooperate fully should the police wish speak to me.
"Beyond stating that today's allegation is completely false it would not be appropriate to say anything further until the police investigation has concluded."
Sir Cliff's home was searched in connection with an allegation of a sexual nature dating back to the 80s involving a boy under the age of 16, but no arrests have been made, according to a statement from South Yorkshire Police.

The 'Ain't Worried About Nothin' rapper has been seeing Khloe, 30, for several weeks, and he insists she is very different to how she is portrayed in reality TV show 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians'.
He told the New York Daily News newspaper: "That's my Koko. She's a real cool down to earth person. I don't think a lot of people get to meet her to find that out."
Montana, 29, also vehemently refuted suggestions he is dating Khloe as a means of boosting his own profile.
He said: "I don't look at it like that. She's the funniest person ever."
Montana also defended the rest of the Kardashian clan, saying: "When you're in the limelight and you're in that kind of position in life you're always going to have haters.
"I feel like once you get to know [the Kardashians], they're really like (some) of the dopest people ever."
Khloe makes a guest appearance in Montana's latest music video 'Don't Panic', which debuted on Wednesday [13.08.14].

Kendall Jenner has threatened to sue a waitress who accused the model of throwing money in her face.
The 18-year-old reality TV star has sent a letter to Mercer Kitchen server Blaine Morris in which she admitted she accidentally forgot to pay her bill, but denied the rest of the employee's account of what happened when she confronted Kendall and her friend Hailey Baldwin outside the New York restaurant.
Kendall's lawyer, Marty Singer, says in the letter that the 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' star was "extremely apologetic" when the waitress spoke to her and was glad to pay what she owed, $33 plus a $7 tip, and "politely handed" over the money.
The lawyer went on to allege Blaine - who appeared in US TV show 'Skins' - had "concocted a fictionalised account" of the incident to get publicity.
According to website TMZ, the note read: "Although you are working as a waitress at Mercer Kitchen, I understand you are also a struggling actress.
"You no doubt concocted a fictionalised account of your encounter with my client in order to create publicity for yourself."
Following Kendall's failure to pay her bill, the waitress tweeted: "That horrible moment you chase a Kardashian down the street because she forgot to pay her bill to be thrown money in your face."
Kendall later denied the claims on Twitter.
She wrote: "These rumors r absolutely ridiculous! I would never throw money in anyone's face or act that disrespectfully. I was raised better than that.
"Said it once and I'll say it again, don't believe everything you read! (sic)"

A property belonging to Sir Cliff Richard has been searched by police in relation to an alleged historical sex offence.
The 73-year-old star's property in Berkshire, South East England, has been searched and items have been taken away but no arrests have been made, according to BBC News.
A police spokesman said: "Police have gained entry to a property in the Sunningdale area of Berkshire. Officers are currently searching the property.
"A search warrant was granted after police received an allegation of a sexual nature dating back to the 1980s involving a boy who was under the age of 16 at the time.
"No one has been arrested and the owner of the property was not present."
The search is not said to be connected to Operation Yewtree - which was set up in the wake of revelations about the crimes committed by late TV presenter Jimmy Savile - but officers from the operation have been notified.
Sir Cliff - who was born Harry Webb - is one Britain's most successful musicians, having sold over 21.5 million singles, more than any other male British artist, and is the only performer to have had at least one UK top five album in each of the last seven decades.
The 'Move It' hitmaker - who is currently believed to be residing in his home in Portugal - was presented with his knighthood in 1995 and performed at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee concert at Buckingham Palace in 2012.

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas have put their home in Bedford, New York, up for sale.
The couple, who recently reconciled their differences, hope to fetch $8.1 million for the stylish home, which includes around five acres of land.
The property, built in the 1930s, also features a centre hall, six bedrooms and six bathrooms, as well as multiple gardens, a greenhouse, a pool and a spa.
Catherine, 44, moved into the luxurious home during their separation and took the opportunity to ride horses on the huge expanses of land.
The couple only acquired the property in 2010, when they paid around $5 million for it - but they are already keen to sell it.
This comes shortly after the award-winning actress admitted she was a "mess" after her husband was diagnosed with cancer.
Michael, 69, discovered he had stage four throat cancer in 2010 after being misdiagnosed, "not once, not twice, but three times".
The actress said: "When I'm married to a man who has such a conviction for life ... he fights to make the wrongs right. For the first time he was fighting for his life."
Michael - who has daughter Carys, 11, and son, Dylan, 12, with Catherine - has been cancer-free since January 2011.

Danielle O'Hara has kicked her husband out of their home.
The 30-year-old beauty is said to have told her husband - Wolverhampton Wanderers soccer star Jamie O'Hara - to move out of their mansion in the West Midlands of England following revelations he cheated on her.
The former Miss England star jetted to Dubai with her and Jamie's sons Archie, three, Harry, two and six-month-old George when the news first broke but now that she's returned he's said to have agreed to leave their home.
A source close to the couple told The Sun newspaper: "They agreed it was best for Danielle to be there as she is looking after the children.
"Also, she has done nothing wrong - and Jamie did the decent thing and agreed to move out.
"He has not been at the house for the last week, and knows he would not be very welcome there at the moment."
One of the women linked to the former Tottenham Hotspur player claimed she met him on a night out in Birmingham in July and went back to his marital house where he made love to her as his pals cheered him on.
The second woman, named Sarah Bailey, told how she met up with Jamie in Los Angeles while Danielle struggled to look after their three young sons back home in England.
