Jennifer Lopez taught Kerry Washington how to dance.
The 37-year-old actress grew up with the 'I Luh Ya Papi' hitmaker, 45, in the Bronx, New York, and believes she's the reason she can shake her butt.
Speaking to Yahoo Beauty, Kerry said: "We had this amazing dance teacher, Larry, and Jennifer actually used to substitute teach when Larry wasn't around.
"You wouldn't know it from my build, but Jennifer taught me how to dance.
"And I remember when she left the Boys Club because she was leaving New York to go to LA to try and make it big and we were all like, 'Oh my gosh.' "
Meanwhile, the 'Scandal' star gave birth to her first child, daughter, Isabelle with her husband Nnamdi Asomugha in April and admits motherhood is a great experience and she's just enjoying her little one.
Asked how she's finding being a mum, she replied: "You know, it is amazing and life changing and extraordinary. I normally don't talk about this stuff... I think I am just in awe of her."
The brunette beauty has bounced back into shape really quickly after giving birth and credits her love of Pilates for helping her lose the baby weight.
She said previously: "It's such a great way to get in shape in a loving way. I feel like I'm both challenging myself and healing my body at the same time."

Sofia Vergara is "obsessed" with candy.
The 42-year-old actress admits she struggles to keep her sweet tooth under control and is even considering undergoing hypnosis to curb her addiction to treats.
Speaking to Shape magazine, she said: "I heard about someone in LA who got hypnotised so they wouldn't eat candy. I'm seriously looking into that because I'm obsessed [with candy]."
However, the brunette beauty doesn't let the pounds pile on as she makes sure she hits the gym "harder" if she finds herself tucking into too many sugary snacks.
She added: "When I do indulge, I exercise a bit harder the next day. My workout motto is really simple: No pain, no cake!"
Although, it's only been the past two years that Sofia has felt she needs to exercise more as she believes her body has changed a lot since she has hit 40 and her self-confidence has also started to plummet.
She explained: "Everyone knows that I've never been into working out. I was always very happy with what I have. Then I hit 40 and I started seeing a softness everywhere on my body."

Kris Jenner wants to date someone younger than her.
The 58-year-old matriarch is allegedly on the hunt for a young man to date to help her take her mind off her divorce from her second husband Bruce Jenner, 64.
A source told RadarOnline: "Kris is actively hunting for young lovers to fill the void of her split from Bruce."
The couple, who have daughters Kendall, 18, and Kylie, 17, together, split up last year after 23 years of marriage, but have tried to remain close friends since their separation for the sake of their famous family.
Kris - who has also grown-up children Kim, Khloe, Kourtney and Rob Kardashian with late first ex-husband Robert Kardashian - said previously: "I think we have a really close family period. And we have so great memories over 25 years. We have a lot of stuff going on with our family and the holidays are coming and it's tradition. We have two kids together and we want to set a really good example for our family."
However, Kris - who was romantically linked to former 'The Bachelor' star Ben Flajnik, 32, following her split from Bruce last October - has made it no secret that she'd like to find love again.
She said: "I want to definitely be in love, I like being in love, I think there's no better feeling in the world. So yeah, I mean that would be amazing."

Will.i.am has blasted United Airlines for giving his seat away after he failed to check in on time.
The Black Eyed Peas rapper took to Twitter to vent his frustration after the company's staff at New York's
John F Kennedy airport stopped him from catching his international flight to China on Wednesday afternoon because he arrived just 45 minutes before take-off.
In a series of tweets, he wrote: "Make sure when you fly to china via @united you get to the airport 1day before because they'll give your seats away (sic)."
Seconds later, he added: "I'm flying to china and @united just gave my seats away...#wtf (sic)."
The 39-year-old producer then went on to compare the airline, which policy states passengers must arrive at least 60 minutes before take-off, to other companies he's used in the past that have waited for him.
He tweeted: I fly @BA @quantas @koreanAIR @singaporeAIR & they wait for premium passengers to arrive...they don't give away your seat like @united
"Plane leave at 1:15 I got to the airport at 12:30...@united is the worse...I should have learned from the last @united experience (sic)."
Will.i.am - whose real name is William Adams - was kicked out of United Airline's First Class Lounge in May after staff suspected his membership card was fake.

Hilary Duff felt "uncomfortable" when her ex-boyfriend Aaron Carter declared his love for her earlier this year.
The 'Chasing the Sun' hitmaker found it bizarre when the 'Crush On You' singer, whom she dated when she was just 13, publicly expressed his feelings for her on Twitter and in a string of interviews in March.
Speaking about Aaron, 26, on 'Watch What Happens Live' last night (08.10.14), she said: "It's...ugh! I don't know. I don't know what to say about it!
"It [our relationship] was so many years ago. I literally haven't seen him ... so, it's uncomfortable."
However, the 27-year-old beauty, who announced she had amicably separated from her husband Mike Comrie in January after three years of marriage, admits the initial attention from Aaron on Twitter was "nice" but she began to feel differently when it continued.
She added: "It's nice to be felt."
Meanwhile, Hilary insists she and Mike, with whom she has two-year-old son Luca, haven't filed for divorce as they are still keen to work on their relationship.
She said previously: "We've uncoupled, for now. I mean, if there wasn't a chance for getting back [together], I think we would've filed for divorce.
"We're not putting any... I talk about this so much, I really don't want to talk about it anymore. But we are like... I just talked to him this morning! We really care a lot about each other."

Taylor Swift is "prioritising" her famous friendships over a romantic relationship at the moment.
The 'Shake It Off' hitmaker, 24, who is pals with Lena Dunham, Lorde, Selena Gomez and Jaime King, is enjoying spending time with her girlfriends because they take her for who she is and really understand her.
Speaking to PEOPLE magazine, she said: "[I'm] prioritising my girlfriends, my family and my music above everything else and trying things I never thought I'd try. I made the decision to spend time on my own and figure out who I am.
"When you're in love you tend to prioritise that other person's opinion and almost value it as much, if not more, thank your own opinion. When you take the other person out of the scenario and you're walking through life on your own, you end up figuring out what you actually like without anyone else's input."
The blonde beauty believes she's so close to her group of friends because she can "trust them" and they share similar views and interests.
She explained: "[We] relate on different levels but the one common thread between all of my friends is I can trust them."
She added: "[My friends] aren't really much for going out to bars or clubs or anything. They're not really as interested in that, and I'm not either, so it works out pretty well."

Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling have reportedly named their baby daughter Esmeralda Amada Gosling.
The couple, who welcomed their first child into the world last month, have officially chosen a cute moniker for their new bundle of joy, according to her birth certificate obtained by gossip website TMZ.com.
It is believed the pair may have taken the name Esmeralda from the fictional novel and 1996 movie 'The Hunchback Of Notre-Dame,' while Amada was the character Eva played in the film 'We Own The Night.'
The 40-year-old actress has also reportedly given the tiny tot the nickname 'Preciosa,' which means precious in Spanish, and is completely besotted with her.
A source said previously: "Eva's in the deliriously tired but blissfully-in-love stage where she wants to do everything herself."
Meanwhile, Ryan, 33, has vowed to scale back his workload now he has a family and it is also believed he had no desire to work during Eva's pregnancy.
The source said: "His family is now his number one priority. He's accomplished everything work-wise that he had hoped and this is the next step in his life."
The couple started dating in 2011 after meeting on the set of their movie 'The Place Beyond The Pines'.

Taylor Swift finds it difficult to figure out whether her fans are excited or having a fit when she meets them.
The 'Shake It Off' hitmaker revealed that due to the excitable behaviour of her supporters when she speaks to them, she sometimes gets worried they might medical attention.
Speaking about the level of excitement when she talks to fans, she told BBC Radio 1: "I'm cool with it as long as it doesn't seem like there's a medical issue at hand. Like sometimes I have to check with them, be like, 'OK, your hands are shaking, is this you being excited or do I need to call an ambulance?'
"Like sometimes it crosses over to it's like, 'Is this how you get excited? Is this normal for you? Or are you having like some sort of fit, attack, and no-one thinks that you're having an attack, and I should be calling a hospital?' "
The 24-year-old singer then agreed with presenter, Fearne Cotton, when she referred to her as a "pop star/paramedic".
During the discussion, the fashionable singer also admitted she now enjoys doing interviews because she is single and has nothing to hide.
She added: "I'm really proud of the way my life is. I'm 24, I'm single, feeling very independent, I moved to New York.
"A lot of fun things have happened in my life and, so having journalists around when there's not really much to avoid, like you don't have to like, 'Oh don't ask her about her relationship!' There's not one to ask about so it takes the pressure off!"
