Eva Longoria is glad she became "famous quite late in life."
The 39-year-old actress says she was "very set in my identity" when she shot to fame in 'Desperate Housewives' in 2004 and believes being older helped her avoid getting into trouble in Hollywood.
Speaking at the Dublin Web Summit in Ireland on Tuesday (04.11.14), the brunette beauty said: "I became famous quite late in life, according to Hollywood standards. I was 28 or 29. I already had my Bachelor's degree, I went to college, I was very set in my identity prior to this thing called fame.
"If you let the tabloids, the news or the media define you as 'America's sweetheart' or 'America's party girl,' and you kind of go in that direction, that's when you can get into trouble. That didn't happen to me because I was so set in who I was, it just kind of falls off my shoulders."
Eva also doesn't feel pressure to maintain her youthful appearance, according to the Irish Independent newspaper.
She said: "I'm still young, so I haven't experienced the ageism yet. I was on a show called 'Desperate Housewives,' where most of the female leads were over the age of 40 and it became a global phenomenon."
She aded: "People tend to put women in boxes - she's sexy, she's smart, she's ambitious, she's a mom, she's young... where women are very complex and the greatest advantage we have is that we're always underestimated."
After taking a break from acting to focus on producing, Eva plans to return to TV next year.
She said: "I probably will be returning to television next year in a new show. I don't know what it is yet, but stay tuned."

Hilary Duff feels "a bit desensitised" following her split from Mike Comrie.
The 27-year-old star, who has son Luca, two, with the retired professional ice hockey player, admits she couldn't have coped with all the negative attention she received when they announced their separation in January after three years of marriage without a "good therapist."
Asked how she handled the difficult time, the 'All About You' hitmaker told the December issue of Elle Canada magazine: "I have a good therapist! I've dealt with [attention] for such a long time. But some of the bigger struggles that came my way in the past two years - like my separation or when my parents separated - were the first times I had to deal with people knowing about something personal happening to my family. It just felt so invasive and insensitive. It got really gross, and I think part of you gets a bit desensitised. The best way to handle it is by just owning your s**t. I'm human and this is what happened. None of us is perfect."
The blonde beauty and Mike, 34, have been working on their relationship for much of the past year and were spotted holding hands at a Halloween party late last month, sparking rumours their marriage is back on track.
Meanwhile, their son Luca is beginning to realise Hilary is famous.
She said: "I think he's starting to figure it out, but I don't really know what he thinks yet. I don't tell him anything about my job, but he knows Mommy's a singer and an actress. We have this book called 'Goodnight Los Angeles'. It's like, 'Goodnight, movie stars and entertainers of Los Angeles!' and it shows people working on a set and having their names in lights. Mike's always telling Luca 'This is where Mommy is!' when I'm at work."

Lena Dunham has apologised for joking about being a "sexual predator" in her memoir.
The 'Girls' creator and star - who was recently accused by right-wing blog Truth Revolt of sexually abusing her sister, Grace Dunham, now 22, because of a passage in her new book, 'Not That Kind Of Girl,' in which she recalls leaning down between her then one-year-old sibling's legs to "carefully spread open her vagina," and shrieking when she discovered it was full of "six or seven pebbles" - insists she does "not condone any kind of abuse under any circumstances" and didn't mean to be "insensitive."
In a statement to Time.com today (04.11.14), the 28-year-old Golden Globe winning actress said: "I am dismayed over the recent interpretation of events described in my book 'Not That Kind of Girl'.
"First and foremost, I want to be very clear that I do not condone any kind of abuse under any circumstances.
"Childhood sexual abuse is a life-shattering event for so many, and I have been vocal about the rights of survivors. If the situations described in my book have been painful or triggering for people to read, I am sorry, as that was never my intention. I am also aware that the comic use of the term 'sexual predator' was insensitive, and I'm sorry for that as well."
She added: "As for my sibling, Grace, she is my best friend, and anything I have written about her has been published with her approval."
Lena initially reacted with anger after Truth Revolt wrote a blog post last Thursday (30.10.14) entitled 'Lena Dunham Describes Sexually Abusing Her Little Sister' and branded it "disgusting" for taking an excerpt from her book out of context.
She wrote on Twitter on Saturday (01.11.14): "The right wing news story that I molested my little sister isn't just LOL- it's really f**king upsetting and disgusting.
"I told a story about being a weird 7 year old. I bet you have some too, old men, that I'd rather not hear. And yes, this is a rage spiral. (sic)"

Matthew McConaughey "cried three times" while watching 'Interstellar'.
The 45-year-old actor, who stars alongside Anne Hathaway in the new sci-fi adventure, also burst into tears several times while shooting some scenes for the film.
Speaking at the New York premiere of the movie on Monday night (03.11.14), the Oscar-winner told PEOPLE.com: "I watched it, and I cried three times."
He added: "It throttled me."
Matthew, who has three children, Levi, six, Vida, four, and Livingston, 22 months, with model wife Camila Alves, found it very emotional because much of the story focuses on his character Cooper's relationship with his daughter.
He said: "Even if you don't care that much about the science of it or even the love story between a parent and a child, you just want to go for the wild, epic ride it is."
The movie also made Matthew appreciate the amount of time he gets to spend with his own family even more.
He said: "There hasn't been a promise or a goodbye like Cooper has to go through with his daughter in this. I'm very fortunate: I get to take my family with me when I go to work, so my goodbyes so far haven't had to be so long."

Kathy Griffin has been offered Joan Rivers' spot on 'Fashion Police'.
The 54-year-old comedienne claims was approached to replace the late star - who died from complications while undergoing a minor operation on her vocal cords in September - on the E! series alongside Giuliana Rancic, Kelly Osbourne and George George Kotsiopoulos, but isn't sure if she wants the job.
She told 'Access Hollywood': "They did offer it to me."
But she added: "I don't know if the situation is correct at this time for me, or right for me at this time."
Although she hasn't officially rejected the offer, Katy hopes that whoever becomes the late icon's successor doesn't try to change the show.
She said: "I really hope they continue in the spirit of Joan's work. She brought a fearlessness and a brand of humor into our homes that we really need. Somebody's gotta be out there poking fun at the ridiculousness of all this!"
Kelly, 29, previously admitted she didn't want anyone to replace Joan when the series returns early next year.
In September, she tweeted: "#enough already!!! yes @e_FashionPolice Will be back in January but NO ONE WILL REPLACE @Joan_Rivers! (sic)"
Following Joan's death, E! ! confirmed the show would continue after receiving the blessing of her daughter Melissa, who produces the series.
A spokesperson said in a statement: "We decided, with Melissa Rivers' blessing, that Joan would have wanted the franchise to continue. 'Fashion Police' will return in 2015 commencing with Golden Globes coverage on Monday, January 12. No further details will be announced at this time."

Kris Jenner learned a lot from her first divorce.
The 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' star, who split from Bruce Jenner in October 2013 after 23 years of marriage, says her split from her late ex-husband, Robert Kardashian, in 1991 was initially "ugly and hard" and is determined to stay on good terms with the Olympic gold medallist, 64, for the sake of their family.
She told 'The Talk': "I went through a divorce a long time ago with Robert Kardashian and it was not fun. It was so scary and I was so young and I had four kids and it was... and then we ended up being best friends. But there was a period of a couple of years in there where it was really, you know, ugly and hard. You didn't want the kids to take sides."
She added: "Well, that was a really good learning experience for me, because I learned how to deal with something again, if I ever...if it ever came up and now we're going through it. You can choose to do things in a real grown-up way and be friends through something and make it so that everyone around you is comfortable and happy.
"Divorce is a decision. It's not a good decision but we're happier living apart than we were together. Everybody feels it. But anything can happen. And the good in my life so outweighs the bad."
Kris, who is set to celebrate her 59th birthday on Wednesday (05.11.14), recently started dating Justin Bieber's road manager Corey Gamble, 41, and likes "to look at the glass half-full."
She said: "So every day, I get up and count my blessings and I thank god that everyone is happy and healthy and strong and we'll get through."
