Shaun Ryder has a ‘painful’ hernia

Happy Mondays singer Shaun Ryder has a "painful" hernia.
The 53-year-old rocker picked up the Ivors Inspiration Award with his bandmates at the Ivor Novello Awards in London on Thursday (19.05.16) and revealed he is waiting on an operation to fix the "rupture".
Speaking at the prestigious ceremony – which honours songwriters in the UK and Ireland – he told BANG Showbiz: "At the moment I’ve got a hernia. I’ve got a rupture, I’m waiting to go in for my hernia operation. It’s painful, in fact this award is too f***ing heavy to carry for me."
Shaun has had the hernia for several months and it stopped him from performing a "mad stunt" when he appeared on Chris Evans’ chat show ‘TFI Friday’ last year.
He added: "I went along to ‘TFI’ but I couldn’t actually do what Chris wanted me to do, he wanted me to do this mad stunt but I could do it because of my hernia."
The ‘Kinky Afro’ hitmaker also revealed the next Happy Mondays will be out in 2017 after his solo LP and a new Black Grape record.
Shaun says the songs for the eagerly awaited album sounds like "drugged up f***ing nonsense".
He shared: "The Happy Mondays album won’t be out until 2017, you can expect the Black Grape album first because it was easier to write and I’ve got a solo album coming out as well.
"The Mondays album is a load of drugged up f***ing nonsense. I tell wacky stories mixed in with ‘News At Ten’. Nothing political though, I leave that to Bez – he’s the politician in our band."
Shaun was thrilled to finally get an Ivor Novello Award and insisted it’s been a long time coming considering he’s been making music for 35 years.
He said: "To be noted for writing a song from years ago feels f***ing great. It should have happened 10 years ago. To actually get something for song writing is great."
