Shakira and Gerard Piqué "discuss everything as a couple."
The ‘Can’t Remember to Forget You’ hitmaker – who has a 15-month-old son, Milan, with the soccer star – insists he isn’t controlling and says the "balance of power is fairly equal" in their relationship.
The 37-year-old Colombian star said: "Relationships have to have a give and take if they’re going to work in the long term."
She also told Ocean Drive magazine: "Gerard doesn’t tell me what to do. We discuss everything as a couple, as I imagine most partners do. We have a beautiful relationship and one of mutual trust."
The blonde beauty was recently forced defend the Spanish athlete, 27, on Facebook after describing him in an interview as "territorial" and claiming he told her she could no longer have men in her music videos.
And she added: "It’s funny, when I made those comments, it was really in a light-hearted, humorous way. I was surprised to see that it was taken so seriously in the press."
The ‘The Voice’ USA mentor also opened up about motherhood and how it has changed her approach to life.
She said: "Everything is different. Maybe the biggest change is that I think about the future more, what the world will be like for him when he grows up. But when it comes to living, it’s all about the present."
