Sex Pistols want to write new music with Frank Carter

The Sex Pistols want to record new music with Frank Carter.

The God Save The Queen punk legends reunited lat year with the former Gallows frontman replacing John Lydon in the lineup, and now the band is entertaining the idea of writing some fresh material.

As quoted by the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column, bassist Glen Matlock said: “We talked about it with Steve Jones. We have ideas and Frank is a very good lyricist.

“Everyone has ideas, but we’re very busy at the moment and haven’t had a chance to really work things out.

“And, above all, we have to ask ourselves in the public really wants us to release new music. In the end, who knows?”

The Anarchy In The UK rockers haven’t worked together in the studio since 1970, although that almost changed when they reunited with Lydon in 1996.

Matlock explained how he, Steve and Paul Cook had been “working on several ideas in rehearsal”, but their bandmate “wasn’t interested”.

He added: “When Chris Thomas [producer of Never Mind The B*******] heard one of those songs, he told us that if John wrote decent lyrics we were guaranteed a hit.

“But John didn’t want to write. Maybe he thought those demos didn’t sound like Public Images Limited enough.”

Meanwhile, Matlock explained how frontman Frank has been given the freedom to change the band’s classic lyrics if he doesn’t agree with some of the words.

He said: “He’s from a different generation and he’s the one singing, so it’s a bit as he feels.

“The lyrics aren’t set in stone, they’re not the Bible, and Frank can adapt them a little if there are things that bother him.

“And you have to keep in mind that the climate today is very different from when the lyrics were written.”

Lydon – who is also known by his former stage name Johnny Rotten – previously claimed the band has been performing “karaoke” versions of their classic songs.

John told ContactMusic.com: “I would have loved for them to have written new stuff and have gone out that way. That would have been brave and good.

“But it isn’t, it’s karaoke. I can’t see it in any other way. They belong on a cruise ship with that malarkey.

“And they’ve put a lot of bands out of work. Pistols type cover bands. What are they gonna do now? Because this lot have topped them in the cheese department.”
