Selena Gomez ‘makes significant donation’ to Time’s Up Fund

Selena Gomez has made a "significant donation" to the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund.
The 25-year-old actress has reportedly "anonymously" pledged a large sum of money to the sexual misconduct defence initiative’s fund, which aims to help women in less privileged professions protect themselves from sexual misconduct and consequences which may arise from reporting it.
A source close to the star told PEOPLE that Selena’s donation "far exceeded her salary for" movie ‘A Rainy Day in New York’, in the wake of ongoing sexual abuse allegations made against the film’s director, Woody Allen.
Selena’s mother Mandy Teefey said this week she tried to convince her daughter it would not be a good idea to work with the filmmaker on the motion picture – but the chat fell "on deaf ears".
Writing a comment on Instagram, Mandy shared: "No one can make Selena do anything she doesn’t want to. I had a long talk talk with her about not working with him and it didn’t click. There is no fall person here. No one controls her. She makes all her own decisions. No matter how hard you try to advise. It falls on deaf ears. (sic)"
Selena’s co-star Timothée Chalamet also donated his ‘A Rainy Day in New York’ fee, splitting the money between the Time’s Up movement, The LGBT Center in New York, and anti-sexual assault organisation Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN).
Rebecca Hall – who starred in Woody’s 2008 movie ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’ – expressed her regret at working with the 82-year-old director, and pledged to donate her fee from the film to Time’s Up.
Time’s Up was started by several Hollywood stars, agents, writers, directors, producers and entertainment executives – including the likes of Natalie Portman and Emma Stone – on New Year’s Day (01.01.18), to make a stand against sexual harassment in the entertainment industry and businesses.
Selena showed her support for the initiative on the day it was created.
She wrote on her Instagram page: "It’s time to shift the balance in the workplace, from representing the few to representing us all. #TIMESUP @timesupnow (sic)"
Woody’s adopted daughter Dylan Farrow has previously alleged he sexually abused her in 1992 when she was just seven years old.
She will appear on ‘CBS This Morning’ on Thursday (18.01.18) for her first ever TV interview about the claims.
