Scissor Sisters return to the studio for first album in 14 years

Scissor Sisters are in the studio working on their first album in 14 years.

The Filthy/Gorgeous hitmakers haven’t released a full-length project since 2012’s Magic Hour, but after reuniting for a tour in May to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their self-titled debut album, sans Ana Matronic, they’ve been penning new material.

Singer Jake Shears is quoted by The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column as saying onstage in London at the Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards – powered by Jaguar – on Wednesday (08.10.25): “Scissor Sisters has always been about coming as you are, coming together and celebrating what it means to be a human being.

“And it’s exciting to look back but it’s really exciting to look forward too.

“We’re back in the studio making new music after a long time and the next chapter feels like it’s well under way.”

He continued: “The most incredible thing about being back here after all these years is how little we’ve aged.

“I hope we continue to inspire others and those that come after us to create and express themselves freely and find the joy in not always taking yourself so seriously.”

The 47-year-old singer then poked fun at Glastonbury for putting Scissor Sisters – completed by Babydaddy and Del Marquis – onstage at the same time as Charli xcx and Doechii.

He said: “The UK’s been a place that has made us feel so loved and accepted.”

Jake then quipped: “Ironically though, the most homophobic thing that has ever happened in our career here was at Glastonbury this year — putting us against Charli xcx and Doechii this last summer. It’s terrible.

“But people showed up and they brought their friends and their boyfriends and their kids and their nannas and it reminded us why we do this all in the first place.”

The band’s tour this year marked their first shows in more than a decade.

Ana sat out the tour as she had other projects she wanted to prioritise.

Jake told The Independent: “I think it just didn’t line up.

“It’s not something that she wanted to do at this moment in time. And I didn’t want that to keep us from coming out and playing these songs.”
