Sandi Toksvig wants to make a film about Maude Adams

Sandi Toksvig wants to make a film about her idol Maude Adams.
The ‘Great British Bake Off’ presenter wants to make a movie about her heroine – who had a number of lesbian relationships – because she wants gay women in our society to have successful role models.
Sandi said: "Maude was a silent film star and was born in 1872 and in her day was the highest paid artist in the United States. She earned more than £1million in 1902. She was an incredible woman and lived with a woman called Louise Boynton for 50 years and they are buried together."
Television star Sandi married Debbie Toksvig in 2014 – who she entered into a civil partnership with in 2007 – and she feels it is important that there is a greater representation of lesbians in the media as she felt like she didn’t know who to look up to when she was growing up.
She told the Daily Star newspaper: "I think that is important and to see ourselves. If I had been able to see that there was a singer who was a lesbian. There were plenty of role models I just did not know they were there."
Sandi had previously explained that she would like to see more positive lesbian love stories in the media, as her and her partner have been happily married for 13 years.
She explained: "I still haven’t seen the lesbian love story – that relationship where two people adore each other, love each other, support each other. There are lots of stories that need to be told, they’re important. My wife and I have been married 13 years and I love her more every day."
