Sam Mendes to direct My Favourite Thing Is Monsters?

Sam Mendes is in talks to direct ‘My Favourite Thing Is Monsters’.
The 51-year-old director is reportedly in the early stages of discussions to develop the project through his Neal Street banner and will potentially sit in the director’s chair for the upcoming adaptation of the critically acclaimed graphic novel of the same name, according to Deadline.com
‘My Favourite Thing Is Monsters’ was written by Emil Ferris and is set in 1960s Chicago. The story takes the form of a fiction graphic diary of a 10-year-old girl named Karen Reyes, who is trying to solve the murder of her enigmatic upstairs neighbour, Anka Silverberg, a holocaust survivor, while the interconnected stories of those around her unfold.
Rights to the movie adaptation were secured by Sony Pictures last week, and if Mendes closes his deal he will be producing alongside Amasia Entertainment’s Bradley Gallo and Michael Helfant, with Palak Patel is overseeing for Columbia Pictures.
Meanwhile Mendes – who was previously known for directing James Bond movies ‘Skyfall’ and ‘Spectre’ – revealed last year he would not be taking on any more Bond instalments as he wants to try something new.
He said: "It was an incredible adventure, I loved every second of it. But I think it’s time for somebody else. I’m a storyteller. And at the end of the day, I want to make stories with new characters.
"I can guarantee whatever happens with it, it will not be what you expect. That’s what she [producer Barbara Broccoli] has been brilliant at, and that’s how it’ll survive."
He added that he hopes his successor will come from an "unexpected direction".
As of yet, no further details about ‘My Favourite Thing Is Monsters’ have been released.
