Sam Bailey ‘cringed’ meeting Prince Charles

Sam Bailey was left "cringing" after embarrassing herself in front of Prince Charles.

‘The X Factor’ winner recently met the 65-year-old royal at the star-studded Prince’s Trust Awards earlier this month, but she admits the moment wasn’t as auspicious as it seems because of her less than regal behaviour.

Sam explained to BANG Showbiz: "Phillip Schofield was stood next to me and Prince Charles was walking down, and I went, ‘Phillip, Phillip! What do I say to him? What do I call him? You’ve done this before … you must punch him on the arm and call him Chaz!’

"He said, ‘You have to curtsy and say, "Hello, Your Royal Highness", and after that you say "sir".’

"I’m like practicing, ‘Your Royal Highness…’ and Phillip Schofield’s laughing. Then I curtsied, but because I’m a tomboy, I had a bit of a giggle at myself – I’m such a plumb!"

But the 36-year-old star’s dilemma didn’t end there as Sam admits she made a bit of a faux-pas while talking to the prince.

She added: "He was talking to me and shook my hand and he’s having a bit of a chat with me. He said, ‘Well, good luck with the album’, and I said, ‘Cheers, sir!’

"Phillip Schofield went, ‘Oh no, you were doing so well!’

"It was so cringe. I was cringing quite bad because I was like, ‘Cheers, sir!’ "

Sam’s debut album ‘The Power of Love’ is out now.
