Sally Carman wants to avoid on-screen romance with Joe Duttine

Sally Carman would find it "awful" getting together with her real-life partner Joe Duttine on ‘Coronation Street’.

The 39-year-old actress plays Abi Franklin in the ITV soap but revealed that she hates the idea of her getting together with Joe’s on-screen alter-ego, Tim Metcalfe, as it would ruin the relationship between his character and on-screen wife Sally (Sally Dynevor).

Asked about the possibility by Inside Soap magazine, Sally said: "That would just be awful on every level!

"I would hate for Abi to get in the middle of Tim and Sal, because they work brilliantly. Also, Joe and I don’t want to work together – we see enough of each other at home!"

Sally also revealed she wants Abi to come between former flame Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) and Carla Connor (Alison King).

She said: "I’d like Abi to be the one to stir the pot between anybody, absolutely. Why not – get in there!"

Sally believes that her alter-ego would "kill" Carla if it came to a fight between the pair for Peter.

She said: "Oh, she’d kill her! Carla is too refined, and has too much self-respect to really let herself go – but Abi is like a little alley cat, and she will go for it. She has nothing to lose."

The soap star admitted she enjoys causing "mischief" with her character.

Sally explained: "I like the drama, but I really, really love it when Abi is causing mischief – when she’s a bit mouthy, and putting fingers in pies she shouldn’t be putting her fingers in!

"I get to do high drama, and the funny stuff, and not every character can do that."
