Rylan Clark’s Bit on the Side bargaining

Rylan Clark only signed up to ‘Big Brother’s Bit on the Side’ so he could get a Diary Room chair.

The 26-year-old TV presenter tried to tempt producers into letting him have one of the infamous house’s main pieces of furniture when he won ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ in January 2013, but when they rejected his request he used it as a bargaining tool to land a job on the ‘Big Brother’ spin-off show.

He said: "I’ve got a Diary Room chair in my house so I’m very happy. When I won I said, ‘Can I have the Diary Room chair?’ But they said ‘No one gets that Rylan.’

"Then they asked me to do ‘Bit on the Side’ and I thought, ‘I’ve got nothing to lose, I’m going to hedge my bets, if I get the Diary Room chair I’ll do it.’ And it turned up two weeks later."

Rylan first came close to sitting in the Diary Room chair eight years ago when he signed up for non-celebrity version, ‘Big Brother’, in 2007.

He explained: "In 2007 I auditioned, I was 18 years old. I’ve been the biggest fan of ‘Big Brother’ since it started. I used to put the sticker on my suitcase, the eye logo. I was that sad kid at school.

"So when I was 18 it was the first time I could audition so I auditioned, I got in, I was a housemate … And then two days before I went in it came out in the papers that I was going in.

"Back then, if you got found out, you weren’t going in and I never let it go and six or seven years on I won ‘CBB’ and now I present it!"
