Rylan Clark auditions for Xtra Factor

Rylan Clark has auditioned for ‘The Xtra Factor’.

The 25-year-old comedian and presenter Laura Whitmore, 28, are being lined up by producers to take over hosting duties from Caroline Flack and Matt Richardson on the ‘X Factor’ spin-off show later this year.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "It’s a pretty stressful time, because Laura and Rylan have been screen tested but obviously, that makes it look like Caroline and Matt could be for the chop.

"The final decision isn’t made until the last minute – Olly Murs [who hosted ‘The Xtra Factor’ from 2011 until 2012] only found out he had the job just days before he started filming. So it’s quite tense, as it’s a big deal."

Rylan, who shot to fame after appearing on ‘The X Factor’ in 2012, impressed bosses after taking over from Emma Willis on ‘Big Brother’s Bit on the Side’ last year.

Meanwhile, Laura made her mark after taking over presenting duties from Caroline on the spin-off show ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! NOW!’ in 2011.

However, Caroline and Matt could still make a return to the ITV programme later this year as no firm decision has been made as of yet.

A production source explained: "We’re looking at what this year’s series will look like but it is far too early to say what changes might be made.

"Matt and Caroline are great presenters and could still return as we haven’t made any decisions yet."
