Royal ‘intruder’ explains actions

A ranting man who tried to enter Buckingham Palace thought he would be "welcomed" by Britain's Queen Elizabeth.
Nigerian-born Tosin Odunaiya - a self-confessed illegal immigrant - was confronted by armed guards on Friday (04.04.14) evening as he sought a "private audience" with the monarch on his fifth attempt to get into the palace but admits he was shocked by the response his attempt to force entry received.
He told The Sun newspaper: "I wanted to speak with the queen and presumed the royal family would have welcomed me as their lost son."
The incident saw a Coldstream Guards soldier sprint 50 yards to confront the 23 year old and point a rifle and bayonet at him, but Odunaiya insists he wasn't scared, claiming the altercation began because he "told off" armed officers.
He said: "I was shouting louder and louder when the Guard came over and started shaking his gun at me. He didn't scare me.
"I said, 'You're a big boy now, are you?' and the Guard said, 'Yeah, I am a big boy' and shoved me away."
And the would-be intruder - who lives in London but says he hates Britain - later sent out a sinister tweet.
He wrote: "Why did you have to pull that Toy on me!?
"If I die! I will come back at you with no mercy. Last warning."
A royal spokesperson has declined to comment on the incident.

Prince Andrew treats Sarah Ferguson and Beatrice to dinner

Britain's Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson treated their daughter Princess Beatrice to a meal on Wednesday night (02.04.14).
The former couple, who divorced in 1996, proved they still remain on good terms as they joined their eldest daughter Beatrice, 25, for a dinner at Restaurant C in London.
The mother and daughter looked super stylish as the duchess showed off her newly slimmed down figure in a purple dress, which she teamed with cute flats.
Beatrice opted for a white shirt and knee-length skirt, but added a hint of sparkle by choosing to wear jewel-embellished ballet flats.
Andrew, 54, on the other hand, kept things traditional by wearing a navy tailored suit and matching blue tie.
The family looked happy as they tucked into a delicious Italian meal, before leaving and flashing their big smiles at awaiting photographers.
Despite ending their marriage 17 years ago, Andrew and Sarah have stayed friends for the benefit of Beatrice and Eugenie, 24, and are often seen together at events.
Meanwhile, Sarah is currently single, but Andrew has been linked to George Clooney's ex-girlfriend, Monika Jakisic.
However, the duchess insists she's not desperate to find a partner because she's just taking her life day-by-day.
She said previously: "I can't really answer questions about the future because I live so much in the present, for the excitement of today."

Princess Anne offered empathy lesson

Britain's Princess Anne will be offered an eight-hour class in empathy by PETA.
The 63-year-old royal will be briefed on animal protection at the organisation's - full name People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals - London headquarters in light of her alleged belief that gassing badgers is the most humane way to control their numbers and halt the spread of bovine TB.
These comments will air during episode of BBC's 'Countryfile' on Sunday (06.04.14), following an interview which took place at her Gatcombe Park home in Gloucestershire, south west England.
PETA Managing Director, Ingrid E. Newkirk, said: "PETA's course teaches the Golden Rule - treat others as you wish to be treated.
"Those who have everything in life should not be calling for the death of horses and badgers, whose only crime is to be born into a world where humans are in charge and other animals are viewed by some as replaceable."
The classes consist of workshop outlines, videos, supplemental course materials and a final exam and aim to express that animals feel both joy and pain and deserve respect.
They include scientific evidence that animals are thinking and feeling beings capable of a wide range of complex behaviour and emotions, as well as presentations on the specific needs of companion animals.

Prince Harry visits Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park

Britain's Prince Harry visited local schoolchildren at London's Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park today (04.04.14).
The flame-haired royal was joined by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, and proved to be a good sport as he joined the young children playing in park on the climbing frames.
Harry has been quoted saying: "It was fantastic the way it was anyway, but the amount of money that has been spent and the creativity as well, I think it's brought it to life.
"I think the members of the public will get a chance to come here and for kids obviously they absolutely adore it, playing in the sand.
"I think they realise how lucky they are that they have had a chance to come down here before everybody else."
This visit comes a day before the 560 acre park is set to open to the public for the first time, from 10am tomorrow (05.04.14), since the end of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games.
Boris added: "Our city's newest park is crammed with spectacular attractions and activities set in acres of stunning green spaces.
"This is now a must-see destination for Londoners and visitors alike and forms a glittering centrepiece for our ambitious regeneration plans in Stratford and beyond."
This is Harry's first London engagement since he took girlfriend Cressida Bonas on a romantic skiing trip. They were flown to the exclusive resort of Shymbulak, located in the mountains above the city of Almaty in Kazakhstan.

Prince Harry and Cressida Bonas to announce engagement ‘sooner’ than expected

Britain's Prince Harry and Cressida Bonas' rumoured engagement will be announced "sooner" than expected.
The blonde beauty's family are gathering to prepare for a royal announcement as their relationship blossoms.
Sources told the Mail Online: "There is a family gathering to discuss an engagement. The announcement will be sooner than many people think."
A source close to Cressida confirmed news of a pending royal wedding, claiming it's simply "a matter of time".
The insider said: "Harry and Cressida will be married. It is all going ahead. It is just a matter of time."
It is also believed that the 29-year-old prince will take her to Queen Elizabeth's Scottish retreat this summer, where she will meet the monarch for the first time.
A source told the website: "It is the talk of the estate."
The young couple - who were introduced to one another through the flame-haired royal's cousin, Princess Eugenie - have increased their public outings of late prompting fresh speculation over the state of their relationship.
Last month they were pictured at We Day UK together, and the following day they were seen at Twickenham, London to watch England play rugby.

Queen Elizabeth visits Pope Francis at the Vatican

Britain's Queen Elizabeth met Pope Francis for the first time on Thursday (03.04.14).
The monarch - who was joined by the Duke of Edinburgh - embarked on her first visit to Rome in 14 years where she was more than 20 minutes late to meet the leader of the Catholic Church following a meal with President Giorgio Napolitano at his official residence, the Quirinale palace.
She has been reported saying: "Sorry to keep you waiting. We were having a very pleasant lunch with the president."
The queen gifted the pope with a range of treats including Balmoral whisky, a rib of Windsor beef, and honey produced in the gardens of Buckingham Palace.
She said: "I've also brought something from all our estates which is for you personally and two extra bits which wouldn't fit into the basket."
The pope gave her a blue orb which had a silver cross on top for her eight-month-old grandchild Prince George - son of Duchess Catherine and Prince William.
He said: "It's for the little boy."
Elizabeth replied: "That's very nice, he will be thrilled."
Before adding: "When he's a little older."
Italy will have another royal visit soon as Prince Harry is due to attend the 70th anniversary commemoration of the bloody Battle of Monte Cassino next month.

Duchess of Cambridge commissions bespoke gown for royal tour

Britain's Duchess of Cambridge has commissioned a Ralph & Russo gown for her tour of New Zealand and Australia.
The royal is reportedly hoping to make a big impact thanks to a bespoke dress from the high-end couture label when she heads Down Under on April 7 with her husband Prince William and their son Prince George for their official visit of the Commonwealth countries.
A source told Grazia magazine: "Kate visited Ralph & Russo's boutique last month and said she was looking for inspiration for the tour. She liked that they had Australian connections and has apparently given them specific instructions for a gown."
This marks a change in the 32-year-old beauty's usual high street style since the designs, courtesy of Australian couple Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo, come with a price tag upwards of £50,000.
It was recently alleged Queen Elizabeth had banned Catherine from wearing anything high street on the tour and wanted her to adopt a more ladylike and "regal" look.
The insider said: "Kate is taking this tour very seriously. She's putting a lot of thought into what she wears and she's opting for some quite expensive choices as a result.
"Kate's entire wardrobe for 2012 cost less than one of Ralph & Russo's gowns! She's really upping the ante and opting for higher-end designers than she would normally choose."
Catherine Walker, Temperley and Alexander McQueen are also said to have been approached to kit the duchess out for the tour.

Queen Elizabeth’s toys displayed in summer exhibition

Britain's Queen Elizabeth's childhood toys will be put on display as part of an exhibition this summer.
The 87-year-old monarch's toys including a rocking horse, a little wicker pram and dolls will be seen at the Royal Childhood exhibition at Buckingham Palace, when the residence opens its doors between July 26 - September 28.
Items used by other young royals through a number of generations will also be shown during the exhibition which was inspired by the arrival of eight-month-old Prince George.
Duchess Catherine and Prince William's son's silk, satin and lace gown he wore to his Christening at St James' Palace in November will also be displayed.
The gown itself spans back generations and was originally commissioned by Queen Victoria for the Christening of her first daughter, Princess Victoria, in 1841.
Anna Reynolds, curator of Royal Childhood, said: "Visitors to the palace this summer will see over 100 items, many of which will go on display for the first time."
The exhibition will also show previously unseen photographs and film footage.
