Prince William mistaken for grandfather

Britain's Prince William laughed when he was introduced as his grandfather on Friday (21.11.14).
The 32-year-old royal saw the funny side at a ceremony at the Royal United Services Institute in Whitehall, London when he was presented as the Duke of Edinburgh, the official title of his grandpa Prince Philip.
William - whose wife Duchess Catherine is expecting their second child - brushed off the toastmaster's gaffe to hand out the Chatham House Prize to Bill Gates' wife Melinda in recognition of her humanitarian work through the Gates Foundation, which helps provide increased access to family planning, better nutrition and life-saving vaccines.
William told assembled dignitaries including Sir John Major, Lord Ashdown and former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan: "With her equally remarkable husband Bill, Melinda set up the Gates Foundation to change the world.
"And change it she has, transforming the lives of women, the poor, the sick and the disadvantaged in Africa and elsewhere.
"The Queen, who has been patron of Chatham House since 1952, sends you this message, which I have the honour of reading now, 'I send my warmest wishes and congratulations to Melinda Gates on being awarded this year's Chatham House Prize for her humanitarian work and her long-standing commitment to philanthropy. Members of the Royal Institute of International Affairs have chosen a worthy winner.' "
Melinda said she was honoured to receive the work and very proud of the achievements of her charity.
She said: "I sometimes wish we could take your public here and let them witness first hand what Bill and I have witnessed around the world.
"Since 1990 we have cut in half the number of children who have died under the age of five. At the same time the population has grown by two billion.
"That is incredible. We have a chance again in the next decade, in the next 15 years, to cut that number in half again."

Duchess Catherine wants a puppy for Prince Harry

Britain's Duchess Catherine wants to buy Prince Harry a dog for Christmas.
The pregnant duchess has seen how much the 30-year-old prince dotes on her and Prince William's beloved pet pooch Lupo - who was famously a part of the first official pictures of the couple and their baby son Prince George, now 16 months - and has been making enquiries about a litter of yellow labradors which are due to be born at the end of this month.
Once the pups are born, Harry will be given the pick of the litter to take home to his apartment at Kensington Palace.
A source told the Mail on Sunday newspaper: "Kate knows how much Harry loves Lupo, and how much joy he brings him, so it makes sense he should have his own puppy.
"Kate and William worry that Harry gets lonely living on his own, so a pet puppy would be a great solution."
And Catherine has already reassured her brother-in-law that she is happy to care for the dog if he has to go away on official duties.
The source added: "Apparently she is willing to look after the dog if Harry has to go abroad for Royal duties or with the Army."

Prince Harry praises legend Lewis Hamilton

Britain's Prince Harry praised Lewis Hamilton as "an absolute legend" yesterday (23.11.14).
The 30-year-old royal was among the spectators at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix when the 29-year-old British driver secured the F1 World Championship for the second time and was one of the first people to congratulate the sportsman.
Standing in the pits with Mercedes executives at the Yas Marina circuit, Harry was handed a radio to communicate with Lewis and told him: "Lewis thank you very much for not making the British public sweat.
"You are an absolute legend. Well done mate."
As well as Harry, other stars watching the action in Abu Dhabi at the weekend included Lewis' girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger - who was visibly emotional as her boyfriend picked up his trophy - former Spice Girls singer Geri Halliwell and soccer legend Edgar Davids.
Meanwhile, British Prime Minister David Cameron took to twitter to congratulate Lewis, who previously scooped the World Championship in 2008.
He wrote: "Congratulations to @LewisHamilton on winning the #AbuDhabiGP and his second #F1 world title. A great day for British motorsport.(sic)"
And Nicole used the social networking site to express how "proud" she was of her boyfriend, who she has had an on/off relationship with since 2007.
She wrote: "Congratulations babe for winning the #2014F1WorldChamionship !!! I'm soooo proud of you!!! #GodisGood #abudhabiGP (sic)"

Monaco’s Prince Albert wants to keep twins’ genders secret

Monaco's Prince Albert has asked Princess Charlene to keep the sex of their twins a secret.
The 56-year-old royal - who first announced he was expecting a baby with his wife in May, before confirming she was pregnant with twins in October - has asked the 36-year-old beauty to keep the babies' genders to herself.
Prince Albert - who married Princess Charlene in July 2011 - told Monaco Matin newspaper: "The princess probably knows but she is playing the game. She is keeping the secret as I asked her to.
"You know, one doesn't often have the opportunity to have such pleasant surprises in life, that is why I prefer not to know the babies' gender before the birth."
The monarch also confirmed that the twins are due "around Christmas" adding, "But as it is a twin pregnancy the birth will surely take place a dozen days early", reports HELLO! magazine.
He also addressed debate surrounding his kids' succession to the throne of Monaco, stating whichever baby is born first will be named his heir, unless his wife gives birth to both a boy and a girl.
He said: "In the case that one is a girl and the other a boy, it will be the boy."

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip celebrate 67th anniversary

Britain's Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary with a trip to an RAF base.
The 88-year-old monarch and her 93-year-old husband visited RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland where they were met by members of the public and greeted by the Lord Lieutenant of Moray, Lieutenant Colonel Grenville Johnston.
The monarch and the Duke later unveiled a plaque to honour the base's new Quick Reaction Alert facility after being honoured by a fly past from a Tornado jet and two Tycoon aircraft, reports HELLO! magazine.
Queen Elizabeth was also gifted a bouquet of flowers from Lennon Gallagher, eight, who had taken the day off school to meet the monarch and was thrilled with her response when he presented her with the flowers.
He said: "I got the day off school to give the Queen flowers.
"She said, 'Thank you, they're so beautiful.'"
The trip marked the second time Her Majesty has visited the base, which monitors northern airspace and provides a quick response to any unidentified aircraft.

Britain’s Prince of Wales attends memorial of Sir Winston Churchill’s daughter

The Prince of Wales attended a memorial in remembrance of Sir Winston Churchill's last surviving child.
The 66-year-old heir apparent and his wife the Duchess of Cornwall arrived at the service at Westminster Abbey yesterday (20.11.14) in honour of Lady Mary Soames who died in May aged 91.
The service was conducted by the Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall, who said: "In this holy place, house of God and house of Kings, where her beloved father Winston Churchill is honoured with a permanent memorial, we assemble to give thanks to almighty God for the life and work of Mary Soames.
'We remember her war service and the times when she accompanied her father during the Second World War."
The service was attended by her family and friends as well as former Prime Minister Sir John Major who spoke of his "very fond remembrances" of Lady Soames and read an extract from the Book of John, reports the Yorkshire Post newspaper.
Among the 1000 strong crowd was Max Hastings, a journalist and historian, who described her as "a worthy daughter of the greatest Englishman".
Queen guitarist Brain May also arrived to pay tribute to Sir Winston's daughter.

Britain’s Prince Harry’s ’emotional rollercoaster’

Britain's Prince Harry has described the years since setting up his charity Sentebale as an "emotional rollercoaster".
The 30-year-old royal - who founded the organisation to benefit the children of Lesotho following his gap year in the country 10 years ago - made a heartfelt speech yesterday (20.11.14) in which he rallied his audience to continue raising money and making a difference, reports HELLO! magazine.
Harry - who is currently visiting Abu Dhabi as part of his tour of the Middle East - spoke at a dinner following the 5th annual Sentebale Polo Cup, in which he had played earlier in the day.
He said: "If you'd asked me ten years ago how these next ten years would look I wouldn't have predicted we'd be playing polo in Abu Dhabi in the same weekend of the Grand Prix weekend.
"Playing polo in the middle of the desert, this is fantastic, and it has been an emotional rollercoaster but we've come out on top and all I ever want to do is raise enough money so we can make a difference."
The fourth-in-line to the throne also confessed that despite facing problems in the past, the charity has learnt to work closely in conjunction with Lesotho's youths in order to achieve its goals.
He said: "Ten years down the line we have made a couple of mistakes and in turn learned from our mistakes and now we know that actually, by speaking to the core problem, which in this case is the children themselves - it doesn't matter whether they are eight, nine, 10, 15 - by actually speaking to them you get a really good taste of whether you're achieving it or not."
Most recently, the charity started building the Mamohato Children's Centre, a facility aimed at providing residential care for children with HIV and other illnesses, which is hoping to open in July next year.
Also present at the polo match was former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, who praised the Prince's efforts.
She said: "I have met Prince Harry a few times. I've seen him since he was about ten. I have seen him grow up. It is brilliant what he is doing with his life."

Britain’s Prince Charles to continue ‘heartfelt interventions’ as monarch

Britain's Prince Charles will continue to make "heartfelt interventions" in public affairs when he is crowned king.
The 66-year-old royal is reportedly planning to break with his mother, Queen Elizabeth II's discretion when it comes to discussing public matters and after being sworn in as monarch, will continue to express concerns for and ask questions about issues close to his heart.
A source told The Guardian newspaper: "He will be true to his beliefs and contributions.
"Rather than a complete reinvention to become a monarch in the mould of his mother, the strategy will be to try and continue with his heartfelt interventions, albeit checking each for tone and content to ensure it does not damage the monarchy. Speeches will have to pass the following test: would it seem odd because the Queen wouldn't have said it or would it seem dangerous?"
According to his friend Patrick Holden, the heir apparent - who has controversially questioned politicians over matters including education, genetic modification of crops and health in the past - "feels these issues are too serious to ignore".
Mr Holden, an organic farmer who has also advised Charles on sustainability, said: "The prince understands the need to be careful about how he expresses concerns or asks questions, but I do think he will keep doing exactly that
"He is part of an evolving monarchy that is changing all the time. He feels these issues are too serious to ignore."
However, a spokesperson for Clarence House has refused to comment on the claims, saying: "Speculation about the Prince of Wales's future role as king has been around for decades but it is not something we have commented on and nor will we do so now.
"The Prince of Wales cares deeply about this country and has devoted most of his working life to helping individuals and organisations to make a difference for the better - and not for his personal gain.
"He takes an active interest in the issues and challenges facing the UK and around the world through his own work and that of his charities."

Britain’s Prince Harry challenged to duel

Britain's Prince Harry was challenged to a duel in Oman.
The 30-year-old royal was visiting the Nizwa Fort in the country on the second day of his tour to the Middle East when he was challenged to a sword fight by folk dancer Mohammed Moussa.
Harry was then handed a wooden shield and 3ft-long blade by the 60 year old, before the pair started to mock battle, reports Telegraph.co.uk.
The fourth-in-line to the throne was also taught how to do a "sword shimmer" as part of a traditional Razha sword dance and attempted to join Mr Moussa in making the blade wobble.
The Prince clearly enjoyed trying out the dance, saying, 'This is mad', as he attempted to perfect the trademark move.
Later, Harry enjoyed a shopping spree at the Muttrah souk in the country's capital, Muscat, where he was spotted buying a cashmere scarf and a soft toy in the shape of a camel.
