Britain’s Prince Harry surprises schoolchildren in Nottingham

Britain's Prince Harry paid a surprise visit to schoolchildren in Nottingham.
Pupils at the Huntingdon Academy were "thrilled" when the 30-year-old royal turned up to discuss the Full Effect Youth Project, which works with young students in the St Ann's area to help them avoid becoming involved in gangs and youth-violence when they leave primary school.
The Huntingdon Academy's headteacher, Teres Shrestha told the Nottingham Post: "I'm absolutely thrilled he's come to meet our children.
"It's really important that he supports and believes in our community here - it's something really positive.
"We talked about how important it is to develop positive role models for future generations and he was really interested.
"The kids didn't know he was coming here and only found out when they met him so it was a nice surprise.
"It's great for them to share their work with a member of the Royal Family."
Harry was spotted laughing and joking with students before meeting the stars and creators of 'Guillemot', a new film depicting real-life stories of youths in the area.
He also attended the film's premiere at the city's Cornerhouse Cinema.
The prince was later described by one student as a "regular visitor" to the area after several of his classmates revealed they had met Harry on two previous occasions.
The outing marked the second official engagement for the royal this year after he visited runners training for the marathon at Twickenham Stadium earlier in the week.

Jimmy Savile advised Britain’s Prince Charles

Britain's Prince Charles sought advice from Jimmy Savile.
According to a new unofficial biography, 'Charles: The Heart of a King', by Catherine Mayer, the 66-year-old royal often discussed matters of healthcare with the disgraced, late TV presenter, who was found guilty of sex offences following his death, aged 84, in 2011.
Charles is believed to have turned to Savile due to his influence over and time spent at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Leeds General Infirmary and Broadmoor, making him an "obvious person to tap for advice on navigating Britain's health authorities".
According to the book, the 'Top of the Pops' host - who was a regular visitor to royal residences Highgrove and St James's Palace - was also asked by the heir apparent to give his opinion on his speeches.
Mayer writes: "Charles also consulted Savile on other matters. One source tells of an occasion when the Prince asked his famous occasional adviser to read over a speech he was due to give on a topic unrelated to health care or any field in which Savile had expertise."
The 400-page work also claims that Savile believed the royal family had taken a shine to him and quotes him as saying: "Royalty are surrounded by people who don't know how to deal with it...I have a freshness of approach which they obviously find to their liking."
He also compared himself to a "court jester".
'Charles: The Heart of a King' which has been serialised by The Times newspaper, goes on sale on Thursday (05.2.14).

Amused Queen Elizabeth II signs autograph

Britain's Queen Elizabeth II got the giggles as she signed her autograph on an official portrait of herself.
The 88-year-old monarch was clearly in high spirits as she put the pen to a picture of her face which is set to be hung inside South Lynn fire station, following her visit there yesterday (02.02.15).
The Queen - who was joined by her husband Prince Philip for the outing - was met by Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk, Richard Jewson, and Norfolk's chief fire officer, Nigel Williams, who offered them a tour around the fire service's new £2 million premises in Horsley Fields, Norfolk.
The royal couple were also treated to an equipment demonstration by the station's firefighters, who were more than happy to show off their skills for the pair, reports HELLO! Online.
Fireman Mark Endersby said: "The Duke was very interested in it, he was asking what does this do? What does that do?"
Queen Elizabeth - who was dressed in a camel-coloured fur-cuffed coat and cream gloves - finished off her tour by unveiling a plaque to commemorate the official opening in addition to the signed portrait.

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth to stop breeding corgis

Britain's Queen Elizabeth II will stop breeding corgis.
The 88-year-old monarch - who already has two corgis, Holly and Willow, and is believed to have cared for more than 30 throughout her 63-year-reign - won't be adding any new pups to her household when her existing pets die due to fears a younger dog could damage her health.
According to the Sunday Express newspaper, the Queen worries she could trip over a spirited young corgi, leaving her with serious injuries and unable to perform her royal duties.
A senior courtier said: "She worries about too many dogs around her feet and the danger she will trip up and hurt herself badly. She is after all 88 and not getting any younger.
"Her corgis are getting on a bit and move along at a sedate speed but a young dog would obviously be very lively and much more active.
"Her main fear is that if she fell and broke her arm or even a leg she would not be able to perform her duties for many weeks if not months, and that would upset her greatly."
She is also said to have refused the offer of two Norfolk terrier puppies from her granddaughter, Princess Beatrice, after her own dog, Ginger, gave birth to a little of four in September.
The courtier said: "The Queen thought it was a lovely offer but she politely declined."
Corgis have been a part of the royal family for over eight decades.
The first was bought by the Queen's father, King George VI, from the local kennels in 1933.
He also gifted a corgi puppy named Susan to the then Princess Elizabeth for her 18th birthday in 1944.

Mike Tindall: The Queen won’t be watching The Jump

Mike Tindall doesn't think Britain's Queen Elizabeth will be watching him on 'The Jump'.
The former England rugby captain - who is competing on the latest series of the Channel 4 winter sports competition - believes the 88-year-old monarch won't concern herself with his progress on the show.
When asked if he thinks the royal - who is the grandmother of his wife Zara Phillips - will be watching him compete, he said: "I probably reckon not."
On the subject of any other members of his wife's family tuning in, he said: "I would love to tell you yes or no but I honestly don't know.
"I'm going to have enough ribbing from rugby friends to keep me on my toes."
The 36 year old faced a difficult start in the competition which kicked off on Sunday night (01.02.15) after being beaten in his first event - the skeleton - by dancer Louis Spence.
Mike nearly faced elimination from the show when he came up against Phil Tufnell in the ski-off but managed to save his place in the competition by jumping a huge 18 metres compared to the former cricketer's nine.

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth concerned about Charles’ monarchy

Britain's Queen Elizabeth II has concerns about Prince Charles' kingship.
The 88-year-old monarch is reportedly worried about the reign of her son, 66, who, according to a new unofficial biography 'Charles: The Heart of a King' by Catherine Mayer, is planning a "redefinition of the monarchy".
The heir apparent is thought to be planning to break with his mother's policy of discretion when it comes to discussing public matters after being sworn in and will continue to express concerns for and ask questions about issues close to his heart.
In the work, which is being serialised by The Times newspaper, Catherine writes: "In defining his role as heir apparent, the prince has signalled a redefinition of the monarchy. Some courtiers - and the sovereign herself - fear that neither the crown nor its subjects will tolerate the shock of the new."
It was recently reported that Charles will continue to make "heartfelt interventions" in public affairs, having expressed strong views on matters including education, genetic modification of crops and health in the past.
According to Catherine, Charles has also said: "I only take on the most difficult challenges. Because I want to raise aspirations and recreate hope from hopelessness and health from deprivation."

Britain’s Prince Charles nearly jilted Princess Diana

Britain's Prince Charles considered jilting his first wife, Princess Diana, at the altar.
The 66-year-old royal is reported to have been "desperate" to call off his wedding to the late Princess before they tied the knot in 1981.
The claim is made in a new unauthorised biography 'Charles: Heart of a King' by Catherine Mayer, who alleges that the heir apparent changed his mind about marrying the future Princess after discovering she was "not the jolly country girl he had assumed".
According to the Daily Telegraph newspaper, Charles told his closest confidant at the time: "I can't go through with it, I can't do it."
Andrew Morton, Diana's biographer has also spoken of the blonde beauty's desire to pull out of the marriage, claiming she told her sisters Sarah and Jane: "I can't marry him, I can't do this, this is absolutely unbelievable."
However, her siblings are said to have told her she had to go through with the nuptials as "your face is [already] on the tea towels".
Like Charles, Catherine claims Diana had no idea her future spouse was being "coaxed to the altar."
The pair - who had two sons, Prince Harry, 30, and Prince William, 32, were married until their divorce in 1996, following Prince Charles' affair with his current wife the Duchess of Cornwall.
Princess Diana passed away the following year from injuries she sustained in a car crash in Paris.

Princess Beatrice quit job over cyber-attack

Britain's Princess Beatrice left her job at Sony over the infamous hacking scandal.
The 26-year-old royal is said to have decided to resign from her position as a paid intern in the company after her salary, address and other confidential information was stolen by online criminals.
The attack - which is speculated to have been carried out by North Korea in retaliation for Sony releasing a scathing comedy film depicting leader Kim Jong-un's assassination - also saw the release of a number of damning email conversations between Sony bosses and top secret scripts including that of the latest James Bond movie 'Spectre'.
A friend told the Mail on Sunday: "Beatrice's job was semi closed down by North Korea when her social security details were splashed all over the pages of American newspapers."
Beatrice's pal also hit back at claims the Princess was making little effort to find alternative employment after she was criticised for jetting off on three luxurious holidays over the past month.
The friend insists she isn't "scared of hard work" and has already lined up two new potential jobs and will continue working as a patron of six charities.
They said: "Beatrice has got another two interviews next week and she is not scared of hard work.
"She's in her mid-20s and is trying to build up work experience with financial companies and start-ups.
"She has done plenty of work experience, so she can forge a serious career with lots of skills."
"How dare people attack her for not working hard when she does exactly that in her office for charities and for the Royal Family?"

Prince Harry to train Prince George for marathon?

Prince Harry wants to train Prince George for the marathon.
The 30-year-old royal - who visited runners at Twickenham Rugby Stadium yesterday (02.02.15) ahead of the annual race in London on April 26 - joked that he would like to see his 18-month-old nephew take part in the sporting challenge when he's older after confessing he wouldn't be running the race himself.
Harry made the comments about the young royal - who is the son of his brother Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge - as he chatted to runner Jane Fishwick, 59, from Shrewsbury, Wiltshire at the stadium.
Jane told MailOnline: "I suggested he might like to run one and he said there's a little bit of a problem there because he and William and Kate would all come under fire to do it if one of them does it.
"So then I suggested maybe they might like to train George up in good time and maybe they might like to hand the mantle on and he said he thought that might be a good idea."
Harry added George could take part even sooner if his parents were willing to join him on the 26-mile course.
Jane added: "He said they could push him round."
The prince looked smart in a pale green jacket and blue chinos as he greeted competitors at the stadium, marking his first public engagement this year.
He watched around 60 runners - who are raising money for his, Prince William's and Duchess Catherine's chosen charities - during their training session.
Harry was also joined by Dr Mike England - the Director of the Injured Players Foundation - who described the royal's support as "priceless".
Mike said: "This is to give the runners that final boost before the big day. To have that support from Prince Harry is priceless."
