Robin Wright ‘saddened’ by Kevin Spacey’s House of Cards exit

Robin Wright and her ‘House of Cards’ co-stars were "saddened" and "surprised" by Kevin Spacey’s exit from the show.
The 52-year-old actress insisted the 58-year-old actor – who was axed from the Netflix series after he was accused of sexual harassment and assault by a number of men – was "so great" with her and "never disrespectful", but she didn’t socialise with him away from the set.
She said: "I think we were all surprised, of course, and ultimately saddened. We forged ahead and we were so thankful that we were able to complete the series as planned.
"We were co-workers really. We never socialised outside of work, respectful professional relationship.
"He was so great with me. He was never disrespectful to me. That’s my personal experience. That’s the only thing I feel that I have the right to talk about.
"Kevin and I knew each other between action and cut, and in between setups where we would giggle.
"I didn’t really … I didn’t know the man. I knew the incredible craftsman that he is."
Robin hasn’t been in touch with Kevin – who played Frank Underwood in the political drama series – or heard from him since he was fired from the show, but thought it was "respectful" to "back off".
When asked how she felt about Netflix "cutting ties" with Kevin, she said: "I don’t know how to comment on that, but I think at that time the shock was so intense all over the nation for many reasons, many stories, many people, I think that everybody felt that it was respectful to back off.
"I haven’t heard from him and I don’t even know how to reach him."
Robin admitted she has been on the receiving end of harassment in the past, and believes most people have.
When asked if she has experienced harassment, she replied: "Of course, who hasn’t?"
Robin – who plays Claire Underwood in the series – added to the ‘Today’ show: "This is a bigger, broader issue, I think. Seduction, I don’t care who you are, it’s about power. And once you overpower someone, that person then becomes vulnerable.
"This last year I think has shined a light in a new way to allow us to start a new conversation, so we just need to shift the paradigm."
In October last year, Kevin was accused by actor Anthony Rapp of making a sexual advance towards him when he was just 14, and a number of other men subsequently came forward to make other accusations against the Hollywood star.
Kevin was let go from ‘House of Cards’, and he offered an apology to Anthony, but insisted he couldn’t remember the alleged incident taking place.
He said in a statement: "I honestly do not remember the encounter, it would have been over 30 years ago.
"But if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behaviour, and I am sorry for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years."
