Robert Downey: There won’t be an Iron Man 4

Robert Downey Jr. says there won’t be an ‘Iron Man 4’.

The 50-year-old actor has revealed there are no plans in motion to make a fourth movie fully focused on Tony Stark and his metal-suited alter ego.

When asked about the possibility of another sequel in the Marvel Studios franchise, he said: "I don’t think that’s on the cards."

The three Iron Man films were a box office hit and trio amassed more than $2 billion worldwide since the first was released in 2008.

However, Downey has no plans to ditch the character and is happy to play Stark in more ‘Avengers’ movies and other films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

He has reprised the role for ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and, although the movie is officially the third in the series based on super-soldier Steve Rodgers, Downey admits it feels like an ‘Iron Man’ sequel.

Downey – who is married to Susan Downey – told the USA Today newspaper: "In a way it’s ‘Cap 3’ but for me it’s like my little ‘Iron Man 4’. And then it’s back to the thing we all recognise. Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an ‘Avengers’ thing comes through because that’s how it is until it changes. If it changes."
