Ringo Starr plotting an EP to wrap-up country album Long Long Road

Ringo Starr is planning to drop an EP.

The Beatles legend, 85, dropped his star-studded country album Long Long Road – his latest collaboration with the legendary T Bone Burnett – on Friday (24.04.26), and has spilled that he wants to get a bunch of songs together for a mini-album to wrap up the project.

He told Variety: “Well, we’re doing it because this year I’m only doing 12 gigs.

“I’ve got the records going, with Universal, and I’ve got the best-of going.

“And I’ve got this idea for doing some other tracks and maybe an EP and will put that out as well.”

Asked if he can provide any further details about what to expect from the EP, he replied: “The idea is just getting the songs and putting ‘em together and seeing how it works.

“But the plan is an EP, where you can see the end of the road (because of the brevity), though these (the two albums with Burnett) were really quick.

“But, you know, I can get a lot of lads in LA who play, and it’s not heavy or big.

“That’s what we did in the pandemic.

“We’d make four tracks, so you could be there with your mask on, and not for an album that could have taken a long time.

“And we might do one of those again. So this year could be this Long Long Road, it could be the best-of, and could be an EP, and one tour thrown in the middle. So that will keep me busy enough.”

The record marks his second full collaboration with T Bone Burnett and arrives as the follow‑up to last year’s chart‑topping Look Up, bringing together a cast of heavyweight guests including Sheryl Crow, Sarah Jarosz, Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle and St. Vincent.

Reflecting on the album’s theme, Ringo said he’s been thinking about the twists and turns that shaped him.

He said: “We’re talking about this Long Long Road I’ve been on — and I’ve been thinking about the road I’ve taken.

“Starting in Liverpool, being in several bands, then with The Beatles… all those stops on your walk of life. I could have taken another path but I took this one and ended up here, still on this Long Long Road. I loved making this record with T Bone and I hope you enjoy listening to it.”
