Ricky Gervais says he would look like Matthew McConaughey if he cut out fatty foods.
The comedic star claims that while he exercises everyday his love of unhealthy food and drink such as cheese and wine has prevented him from achieving a hunky body like the ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ actor.
Speaking to specialist food website, Bonappetit.com, Ricky said: "I mean, the amount of exercise I need to do to stay a healthy weight is incredible. If I just cut out the food, I’d have a six-pack. I’d look like Matthew McConaughey. The only reason I work out is to live longer so I can eat more cheese and drink more wine."
Gervais has struggled with his weight over the years, and he admits to piling on the pounds when his success allowed him to try a variety of expensive restaurants.
He said: "When you get more money, you try more restaurants. Before, I didn’t care about food. I was David Bowie-thin up to about 28, and then I discovered food. I got fatter and fatter for the next 15 years. And then I got even more money and I ate even more food and finer wine and richer cheeses."
Ricky, 52, knew he had to do something about his lifestyle and because he didn’t want to change his diet he decided rigorous exercise was the way forward.
He explained: "Finally, over the last five years, I got a grip. And by ‘get a grip’, I mean I haven’t given up anything. I just have to work out more. I’d much rather eat exactly what I want, and then burn it off than diet."
